Pablo Larrazabal

Brother of 2002 British Amateur champion Alejandro, for whom Pablo caddied at the Masters the following year. He finished his final year of High School in 2002 in the United States. He returned to Spain and wanted to turn professional straight away. But his father, Gustavo, who played for Venezuela in the World Cup, had other ideas, making his son work on the family fish farm to learn and understand the value of money and a day's hard labor. At 21, Pablo turned professional and competed on the Challenge Tour for two years before winning his full Tour card at Qualifying School in November 2007. An excellent second round of 66 put Pablo in a fantastic position, and the young Spaniard took advantage to earn his European Tour card.
Burst onto the scene in 2008, a year which culminated in him being named the Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of the Year, when he won the Open de France ALSTOM after coming through the 36-hole pre-qualifying event at Chantilly the week before many of the European Tour's biggest stars arrived at Le Golf National in Versailles. The son of a fish farmer from Santander, he overwhelmed a field that included Angel Cabrera, Lee Westwood, and Colin Montgomerie, who finished in second place, four strokes behind Larrazabal, who recorded an impressive maiden Tour win.
