Ross Fisher

Fisher, who was born in Ascot, Berkshire, was introduced to golf by his stepfather at age 3. His home course is the famous Wentworth Golf Club, Surrey, England. As a child, he attended Charters School, a state comprehensive close to Wentworth. Fisher joined the European Tour in 2006. He earned his card by finishing 18th on the Challenge Tour's money list in 2005. During Fisher's first season on the European Tour, he won a Jaguar for a nearest-to-the-pin contest at the 2006 Quinn Direct British Masters.
In 2007, Fisher won the KLM Open by one stroke over Joost Luiten and subsequently finished the year ranked 43rd on the Order of Merit. Fisher started the 2008 season with a joint-second place at the HSBC Champions tournament in Shanghai, where he was defeated by Phil Mickelson in a three-way playoff that also featured Lee Westwood.
In July 2008, Fisher won the European Open on the Heritage Course at The London Golf Club. Despite never having played the course either in practice or competition, Fisher shot a first-round 63. Had the lead for every round, winning the tournament by seven shots over Sergio Garcia. Fisher played steadily for the rest of the season and finished sixth on the Tour's Order of Merit.
In 2009, Fischer reached the semifinals of the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship, losing to fellow Englishman Paul Casey, 4 & 3. Fisher also finished second at the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth Club after shooting a 64 in his final round. Fisher's 64 was just a shot outside the Wentworth course record, and he finished a shot behind the winner Paul Casey. Fisher was in contention during the final round of the 2009 U.S. Open at Bethpage Black until a three-putt bogey at the par-3 17th hole. He finished 5th, three shots behind the winner, Lucas Glover. The following month, at the British Open at Turnberry, Fisher held a two-shot lead in the early stages of the final round before driving into the long rough on the right side of the par-4 fifth hole and making a quadruple-bogey 8. He finished T-13th.
In 2009, Fisher had the lowest cumulative score for the four major championships of players who made the cut in all four events. Fisher's cumulative score of 2-over-par was one stroke better than Henrik Stenson of Sweden. At the end of 2009, Fisher won the first Volvo World Match Play Championship that was held away from Wentworth, defeating American Anthony Kim 4 & 3 in the final at Finca Cortesin Golf Club. He finished the season in 4th place in the Race to Dubai.
2010 Notes: Fisher had an excellent chance to shoot a round of 59 and thus make European Tour golf history at the 3 Irish Open, when he was 10-under-par with four holes to play, only needing to birdie two of the remaining four holes. He parred them all for a round of 61. He won the tournament with an 18-under-par score of 266. Fisher qualified for the 2010 European Ryder Cup team at Celtic Manor, Wales. He contributed two points toward the European total and finished with a record of 2-2-0.
2011 Notes: Played 25 events, making 19 cuts and earning four top-10s. Best result was T-6th at the KLM Open. He finished 52nd in the Race to Dubai with 583,569 euros.
2012 Notes: Played in 21 events, making 15 cuts and recording six top-10s. Best finish was 2nd at the Nordea Masters and Portugal Masters. He finished 38th in the Race to Dubai with euro $793,528.
2013 Notes: Played in 18 events, making 15 cuts and earning six top-10s. Best finish was 2nd at the ISPS Handa Perth International. He finished 40th in the Race to Dubai with euro $767,933.
2014 Notes: Played in 28 events, making 20 cuts. Fisher had six top-10 results, including winning for the fifth time on the European Tour at the Tshwane Open in South Africa. It was his first win in over three years. He won by three shots over Michael Hoey and Dannie van Tonder, having entered the day five ahead of the field. Also had a T-2nd at the BMW Masters and a T-3rd at the Alfred Dunhill Championship. Finished the year 20th in the Race to Dubai.
2015 Notes: Played in 26 European Tour events, making 19 cuts. Placed 19th in the Race to Dubai. Had a runner-up finish in his first start at the Nedbank Golf Challenge. Posted a T-9th in his next start in the Abu Dhabi Golf Championship. His third top-10 of the year was T-7th at the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open, then a T-5th at the Porsche European Open. Last top-10 was a T-3rd at the WGC-HSBC Champions.
2016 Notes: In his first start, finished T-5th at the Nedbank Golf Challenge. Also had a T-6th at the Open de Espana and 6th at the Nordea Masters. His game got hot in the fall when he finished 2nd at the rain-shortened Porsche European Open, where he lost a playoff to Alexander Levy. He was runner-up again in his next start at the Alfred Dunhill Links, finishing four shots behind winner Tyrrell Hatton. He also had a top-10 at the WGC-HSBC Champions, finishing T-6th as he went on to place 20th in the Race to Dubai rankings after 24 starts.
2017 Notes: Was T-3rd at the WGC-Mexico Championship, then lost in the quarterfinals to Hideto Tanihara of the WGC-Dell Match Play to finish T-5th. The latter result netted him enough World Ranking points to finish 49th and earn an invitation to the Masters. After finishing T-41st at the Masters, he continued his good play with a T-3rd at the Shenzhen International and T-6th at the Volvo China Open. After missing the cut at The Players, was T-9th at the BMW PGA Championship and T-7th at the French Open. He crafted back to back runner-up finishes at the Alfred Downhill Links and Italian Open. Ended the European Tour year with euro $2,631,625, and ranked 6th in the Race to Dubai.
2018 Notes: Played in 21 European Tour events making 17 cuts with three top-ten finishes. Was 33rd in the Race to Dubai. Was runner-up in his first start of the year at the Abu Dhabi Championship, two shots behind winner Tommy Fleetwood. Also, T-8th at the BMW PGA Championship. At the end of the year was 4th at the Nedbank Golf Challenge.
2019 Notes: Best finish T-13th at the Saudi International and the Maybank Championship.
