Tom Purtzer

Tom and his brother Paul, who also played on the PGA Tour for a while, started playing golf when Tom was 8 when their father, Horace, who was a avid golfer, introduced them to the game. Tom went on to Arizona State and won the 1972 Arizona State Amateur and Southwest Amateur.
Started on the tour in spring of 1975 and won his first tournament two years later, at the 1977 Glen Campbell-Los Angeles Open. Is one of only 15 players who won a PGA Tour event in the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s, and has been described as having the "sweetest" swing on Tour.
Five tour victories in 25-year career included two in 1991. Made up four-stroke deficit at 1991 Southwestern Bell Colonial with closing 64, good for three-stroke victory. Win at the 1991 NEC World Series of Golf earned him a 10-year exemption that expired when he turned 50. Other wins came at 1984 Phoenix Open and 1988 Gatlin Brothers-Southwest Classic. Was the medalist in the 1979 U.S. vs. Japan event and played for the PGA Tour in the Four Tours Championship in 1991.
Played full-time on the PGA Tour between 1975 and 2001, in 654 events played won five times, was runner-up six times, 3rd, 8 times and finished in the top-10, 70 times. Had earnings of $4.2 million.
Has played full time on the Champions Tour since 2002, his best year coming in 2007. In 27 starts he has won once, had a runner-up and ten top-tens. Earned $1,382,436 his biggest yearly take in 37 years in professional golf.
2012 Notes: One top-10 effort among 20 starts was a T-3 at the Liberty Mutual Insurance Legends of Golf. Teamed with Brad Bryant for a better-ball score of 27-under 189, with the duo holding sole possession of the first-round lead.
2013 Notes: Had just one top-10 finish in 19 appearances, teamed with Brad Bryant for a T-4th finish at the Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf. The pair was among the leaders on the weekend after rounds of 65-64.
2014 Notes: Made 19 starts, with one top-25 finish. Teamed with Mark Brooks for a T-17th in the Champions Division at the Big Cedar Lodge Legends of Golf.
2015 Notes: Played in just 16 events during the season with best finish a T-54th at the Dick's Sporting Goods Open.
2016 Notes: Played in 16 events during the year and was T-35th at the Bass Pro Shops Legends of Golf with teammate D.A. Weibring.
2017 Notes: Was T-22nd at the Bass Pro Shops Legends of Golf with teammate Brad Bryant.
