My DraftKings picks for the week
Our new Golfstats fantasy game of the week on DraftKings
Want to thank all 49 of you that participated in our second GOLFstats.Com fantasy game on DrafKings. It sold out in just over 13 hours and many of you didn’t get it, sorry for that. For those that did get in congratulations to Matergy for winning with the picks Jon Rahm (T-3rd), Justin Thomas (T-5th), Brandt Snedeker (T-7th), Justin Rose and Rafael Cabrera-Bello (T-38th) and Alex Noren (T-55th). It’s a rarity to see someone win, without picking the champion but still his guys ranked up lot’s of points and that is what the game is all about.
Here are the results of our game:
Yes that was me in third spot as I rode Dustin Johnson to a winning week.
Now for those that weren’t about to get into the game last week, we have bumped it up to 100 players with the same cost of $5. It will pay off the top-15 players, the winner will get $90, 2nd $67,50 and those between 11th and 15th will get $13.50. So here is an invitation to those that didn’t receive one along with the link, hope you will join us:

One last thing, when we fill out the game we will post that in bold red letters so that people don’t try and enter a game they can’t get into. Again tell your friends, anyone with a DraftKings account can play and we want to be able to get up to 200 players a week before the Masters so that we can have our GOLFstats.com fantasy golf league.
So how did last week go?
On the surface ok, I played $92 worth of games and won $208.13 for a profit of $116.13. As I figured my main horse Dustin Johnson won, something that I was hoping for. My next great player was Thomas Pieters, who finished T-5th but I had to endure a messy finish for him. Going into the final hole Pieters was in 2nd place and with him about to score 4 rounds in the 60s, was looking at a really good payday, around $600. But two things screwed things up, first Pieters made bogey on 18 and when his partner Tommy Fleetwood made birdie, Leftward got nd place and Pieters feel down to 5th, so point wise it was a drop of 8 points which hurt my product. Still I didn’t have Henrik Stenson who many had and when he withdrew during the first round that was a blow that hurt those with him. The rest of my picks Martin Kaymer finished T-23rd, Bill Haas was T-32nd, Justin Rose and Jhonattan Vegas were T-38th. The European Tour was terrible as I had one player not even make it to the first tee on Thursday (justin Harding), two players miss the cut and my best horse being Peter Uihlein who finished 4th. The good news, I only played one $3 ticket so it was a good week not to bet heavily.
Picks for Valspar
After having most of the top players in the field last week, we are left with very little marquee guys, only two top-ten players Henrik Stenson and Justin Thomas. The rest of the field is pretty slim of marquee players, yes Bubba Watson and Matt Kuchar are playing, but they aren’t playing very well right now. So the top player this week is Justin Thomas at $11,900, followed by Henrik Stenson at $11,700, Matt Kuchar at $10,200, Daniel Berger at $10,100 and Patrick Reed at $9,700. Really like both Thomas and Stenson, many will worry over Stenson who got sick and was forced to withdraw in Mexico, but it was related to his stomach and we know how that is in Mexico. So he should be ready to go, the same with Thomas. I tried to take Thomas, but my heart was set on taking Ryan Moore, Charles Howell III and Luke Donald so I wasn’t close in being able to work that out because of the high price of Thomas. After playing around with the numbers I found that Bill Haas has had a great year and was runner-up last year so Haas at $9,200 was my top pick. I followed that with Charles Howell III at $9,400, he has nine straight cuts and been in the top-20 in seven of those events, including a T-2nd in Phoenix. At Innisbrook Howell was T-5th last year, T-10th in 2015 and T-14th in 2014. In 2009 he was runner-up so his record is great on this course. Of course he won’t win but I think he will be top-ten. Next was Ryan Moore at $9,000, he has been up and down all year but his record is strong at Innisbrook, he was 3rd last year and 5th in 2015. Next was Luke Donald at $7,800, he isn’t going to win but just like with Howell he could have a top-ten. I like Donald because he has won in 2012, was T-4th in 2013 & ’14 and was T-6th in 2010. He slumped a bit with a T-53rd in 2015, then was T-22nd last year but the important fact is that Donald will make the cut and get me points. With those four I was left with $14,600 and I was able to find some gems. First was Wesley Bryan at $7,500, he is playing for the first time but he is hot with a T-4th finish at the Genesis Open and Honda Classic. Last I am glad to have found Scott Brown at $6,900. Brown has made the cut in his last eight starts and all of them weren’t that great other than finishing T-2nd at the Genesis Open. But with his T-7th finish last year at the Valspar, that gave me confidence that he will play 72 holes and earn me lot’s of points. So here are my picks:
Charles Howell III at $9,400
Bill Haas at $9,200
Ryan Moore at $9,000
Luke Donald at $7,800
Wesley Bryan at $7,500
Scott Brown at $6,900
European Tour picks for Hero Indian Open
Normally I am not that excited about a tournament in India, but because of the way this was set up and the way the points of some key players were, I am playing hard this week in this event. The high price guys are Anirban Lahri at $11,500, Rafa Cabrera-Bello at $10,900 and Peter Uihlein at $10,200. One important fact is they are playing a new course, so results from the other course is not that important, but I just like who I was able to pick. First was Lahiri at $11,500, he was runner-up last year and won in 2015 so just like with Dustin Johnson, you have to take him. Next up was Brett Rumford at $8,500, he has never played in India, but coming off a victory in Australia so he will be in a good frame of mind. Next up is Kiradech Aphibarnrat at $8,900, yes he has missed his last two cuts but in his last seven starts has three top-tens. He is also playing in this event for the first time but I think he will get the job done this week. Next up is Shiv Chawrasia at $7,100, the bar of the month. Reason for this, he is know as S.S.P. Chawrasia but if you look at his record in this event he won last year and was runner-up in 2015, so you can see how he is a bargin. After that Gregory Havret at $7,000 is ok and Adilson Da Silva at $6,300 is ok and I am looking for these two to make the cut and get lot’s of points.
Last minute Change as of Wednesday Morning:
As always on Wednesday I look to make sure that my guys haven’t withdrawn or the sky fallen in and in looking at my picks, I never felt comfortable with Kiradech Aphibarnrat. He has been up and down the spectrum all year, T-4th in the Thongchai Jaidee event and missing the cut the next week in Hong Kong. But he was T-4th in Abu Dhabi and T-9th at Qatar the swayed me to him so despite missing the cut at Dubai and Maybank I went for him at the ridiculous price of $8,900 and when I saw that he averages just 55.6 points per game started thinking about a switch. Since I had $700 in salary cap left I thought if I could find a way of getting Peter Uihlein at $10,200 it was worth it. So I dropped Brett Rumford, who also had a low 59.9 points per game average and was able to get Uihlein and is 79.4 points per game along with Prom Meesawat at $7,700 and his 70.0 points per game and now feel my team is complete and ready to go. Just remember, second guessing is most of the time not good, but in some cases last minute changes need to be done, like in this case. So here is what it now looks like:
Anirban Lahri at $11,500
Peter Uihlein at $10,200
Prom Meesawat at $7,700
Shiv Chawrasia at $7,100
Gregory Havret at $7,000
Adilson Da Silva at $6,300
