DraftKings Picks for the week
Please join our fantasy game of the week on draftkings
Want to thank all 199 of you that participated in our fourth GOLFstats.com fantasy game on Draftkings. It sold out in 30 hours and I was very pleased that we were able to hit our mark of getting 200 players involved. This week is a bit tricky, DraftKings doesn’t have a game for the Match Play but does have one for Puerto Rico. I worry about the interest level of this so I have taken it down to 150 players. It cost the same $5 and will pay off the top-20 players, the winner will get $101, 2nd $81, 3rd $60.75. Those between 16th and 20th will get $13.50. Here is the invite and a link to get into the game, again we have to get 150 people for this to go off so play our game and tell your friends.

(Update – All 150 spots in the DraftKings game sold, the last one came at 8pm tonight. Very happy with the interest, want to thank all GOLFstats members that have made this a succes. Next week the DraftKings game will be at the Shell Houston Open, so we will go back up to 200. It’s looking more like we will be able to have a GOLFstats/DraftKings league that will start at the Masters. If you folks have any thoughts or ideas for out DraftKings league please send them to me at Sal@golfstats.com)
As for last week, congratulations to verticut for winning with the picks of Tyrrell Hatton (T-4th), Emiliano Grillo & Francisco Molinari (T-7th), Tommy Fleetwood (T-10th), Rickie Fowler (12th) and Matthew Fitzpatrick (T-13th). Shows the power of picking six guys that finish in the top-15, he was 13 points better than Johnsondaniel39. He also didn’t pick the winner but all his guys made the cut. You had to go all the way down to 5th place as cpete10 was the highest rank player to pick winner Marc Leishman.
Here are the results of our game:
So How did last week go?
It wasn’t all that bad because I had five guys make the cut, but I only had two guys in the top-15 and was completely shut out, losing $96 dollars. Now the big frustration for the week was that the only player to miss the cut was Henrik Stenson, when that happens it completely drags all the energy out of you because you count so much on that top-$ pick.
Picks for Puerto Rico
This is a very complex event to pick from, only seven guys in the top-ten and most of the players aren’t household names. The top of the list is Wesley Bryan at $10,800, Graham Delaet at $10,600 and Graeme McDowell at $10,300. I went with the fourth highest player in Peter Uihlein at $10,100. He has made his last eight cuts in a row on the European Tour and had three top-10s, 4th at Tshwane Open, T-5th at Dubai and T-7th at South African Open. In three Puerto Rico starts he has missed two cuts but was T-6th in 2013. Now I was lucky to be able to pick three players over $9,600, my second pick was Scott Brown at $9,800 and let me tell you this was a hard choice. He has played terribly in his last three starts, hopefully bottoming out at the Palmer as he missed the cut with rounds of 82-71. But of those playing in this event he has the best track record at Coco Beach, he won in 2013, was T-5th in 2012 & 2016 and T-10th in 2015. So I am hoping he likes the course and plays well. Next up is Ian Poulter at $9,600, he did well for me last week and his only start in Puerto Rico was T-3rd last week. I am hoping for some good things out of him this week. Next is Ryo Ishikawa at $7,800, he was 69th in Valspar and T-37th in the Honda. Like him mostly because he was 2nd in this event in 2012. It’s time to go bottom feeding and these guys I am just hoping they can make the cut. First is Steve Marino at $6,700, he was 2nd last year in Puerto Rico but on the PGA Tour he has only made one cut in seven starts. The good news, those events he missed the cut he didn’t play all that bad, just missing the cut by a shot in several of them. Last was a player that I was shocked to see at the botton of the list, Ryan Brehm was at the very bottom at $5,900 and I don’t know why. He has never played in Puerto Rico and even though he has made nine of ten cuts, he only has one top-20, a T-18th at Sanderson Farms and for most of the year seems to struggle to make cuts, but the good new is that he does. Again hoping that he can make the cut and make lot’s of birdies and get me lot’s of point. This will be a very tough week to go six for six in made cuts, if you can do it you will make some money. So here are my picks:
Peter Uihlein at $10,100
Scott Brown at $9,800
Ian Poulter at $9,600
Ryo Ishikawa at $7,800
Steve Marino at $6,700
Ryan Brehm at $5,900
As i post this at midnight, our DraftKings game has 100 players and we need another 50 to make it an official game, so come play with us.
