Ben Martin

Martin was runner-up at the 2009 U.S. Amateur, losing 7 and 5 to Byeong-Hun An. Played in the 2009 and 2010 U.S. Open and the 2010 Masters. Co-medalist at the 2010 Furman Invitational. Finished 3rd at the 2009 Puerto Rico Classic. In 2008, finished 8th at the ACC Tournament, 16th at the NCAA Division I West Regional and 29th at the NCAA Division I Championship. Won the 2006 Palmetto Amateur. Runner-up at the 2005 South Carolina Amateur. Played in the U.S. Junior Amateur in 2004 and 2005. A three-time first-team All-ACC selection (2007, 2009, 2010). Also an honorable-mention All-American selection in 2010. Overcome a heart ailment to have a strong collegiate career.
Turned professional in 2010 and won in his second professional event, Forest Oaks Classic (EGolf Professional Tour). Finished runner-up at 2010 PGA Tour Q-School, which gave him his tour card for 2011. Coached by PGA Professional Charles Frost, who is one of 20 PGA Club Professionals earning a berth.
2011 Notes: In his rookie year on the PGA Tour, had three top-25 finishes in 25 starts. Held a share of the first-round lead for the first time in his career with eight other players at the Northern Trust Open. Missed the cut after a second-round 80. Earned first top 10 of his PGA Tour career in his 20th start of the season, with a T-6th at the Reno-Tahoe Open. Was 153rd in the FedEx Cup race and 164th in the money race.

2014 Notes: In second season on PGA Tour and first since 2011, made 13 of 26 cuts, with 3rd-place finishes at the Puerto Rico Open, RBC Heritage and Quicken Loans National. The last one at Quicken secured his exemption into the Open Championship, where he finished T-26th. Advanced to the FedExCup Playoffs for the first time in his career. Season ended by missing the cut at the Deutsche Bank Championship. Was one of six players to start the tournament in the top 70 (63rd) of the FedExCup standings, and finished the year 76th in the rankings and 70th on the money list.
2015 Notes: Entered the final day of the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open with a two-stroke lead over Russell Knox. Carded a final-round 3-under 68 (including a 46-foot eagle putt on the par-5 16th hole and a 19-foot birdie putt on the 72nd hole) for a two-shot win over Kevin Streelman, who shot 65 the last day. It was Martin's first career PGA Tour victory in his 56th start, at age 27 years, 1 month, 23 days. Had never held a lead on Tour entering the final round before carrying the lead to victory at the Shriners. Earned his second top 10 with a 5th-place finish at the Arnold Palmer. Finished T-4th at the Players Championship, a shot back of the playoff and T-10th at Colonial.
