Derek Fathauer

Fathauer was born in Stuart, Fla. He attended Martin County High School in Stuart. He and his twin brother Daryl played in the Ginn sur Mer Classic in October 2007, the first twins to do so in a PGA Tour event. The brothers also played on the same golf team at the University of Louisville. As a freshman, Derek was ranked one of the top freshmen in the country and led the Louisville golf team with a scoring average of 72.73. Was a two-time All-American at the Big East Conference school.
Has participated in four U.S. Amateurs, reaching the quarterfinals in 2007 and 2008, his best finishes. Lost in the 2008 quarterfinals at Pinehurst No. 2 to runner-up Drew Kittleson. Qualified for the 2006 event along with brother Daryl, becoming first set of twins in USGA history to reach match play. Fathauer was also a member of the United States Palmer Cup team. During the cup, he won a team high three points. However, team USA lost the event 14-10 to the European squad. One of his last things he did as an amateur was play in the 2008 U.S. Open at Torrey Pines, he finished T-69th..
Fathauer turned professional on September 17, 2008. He advanced to the final stage of the 2008 PGA Tour Q-School. He earned his Tour card for 2009 after finishing in a T-2nd. Fathauer finished eight shots behind Harrison Frazar after shooting 70-69-65-67-67-70 for a total score of 408. He struggled that first year in 2009 only making the cut 8 times in 25 starts. His only top-25 was a T-22nd at the AT&T Pebble Beach. He finished up 201st on the FedEx Cup rankings. By losing his card, he was not able to play on the PGA or Web.Com Tours so he played mini-tour events. At the end of 2011 he got to the finals of Q-School and finished T-30th, which was one off the mark for making the PGA Tour. But he was able to get a full card for the Web.Com Tour.
2012 Notes: Played in 26 of 27 events on the Web.com Tour and finished 68th on the money list after making the cut in 15 starts. Was inside the top 60 on the money list with three events left on the schedule but withdrew from one and missed the cut in his final two to drop to 68th. Best finish was a T-4th at the United Leasing Championship, his career-best finish to date. Also was T-9th at the Panama Claro Championship in just his second start of the year. Returned to PGA Tour Q-School but finished T-139th.
2013 Notes: Made 20 starts on the Web.com Tour. Of eight cuts made, best finishes were T-16th at the Utah Championship, where he posted four rounds in the 60s, and T-22nd at the Chile Classic. Finished the season 125th on the money list. Went to Web.Com Q-School and finished T-50th, one off the mark for a full card, but was given limited privileges for 2014.
2014 Notes: Dedicated himself to maximizing his potential after doing a personal self-examination. Committed to a carefully constructed routine, and it paid off. Finished the season playing in 23 of 25 Web.com Tour events and was consistent throughout the year. Made 19 cuts, while recording a win, a runner-up and a third. Had eight top-10s and 15 top-25s. In his fourth event of the year at the Panama Claro Championship shot 65-67 on the weekend to finish T-3rd. His 2nd place came at the Nova Scotia Open were he lost a playoff to Roger Sloan. Left his best for last at the four-event Web.com Tour Finals, in which he finished T-9th, T-16th, T-8th and won, remarkably leading two of them after 36 holes and being second after 36 in the other two. Won for the first time at the Web.com Tour Championship in his 73rd start. It propelled him to No. 1 on the Finals' money list, which gave him fully exempt 2014-15 PGA Tour status and an invitation to The Players Championship in May. His Finals' earnings were $250,133 which he added to the $218,052 earnings earnings for a total of $468,185 earnings on the year.
2015 Notes: Struggled again on the PGA Tour, in 27 starts only made 13 cuts and had three top-25 finishes. Best finish was T-7th at the Barracuda Championship, but even with that he failed to advance to the FedEx Cup playoffs after finishing 169th in the standings. So it was back to the Web.Com Tour finals, where he overcame an opening-round 74 at the Hotel Fitness Championship with rounds of 66-70-68 to finish T-10th at the first Finals' event. Missed the next two Finals' cuts and entered the Web.com Tour Championship 34th on the Finals' money list, nine outside the last card spot. Four rounds in the 60s, including a final-round 66 (with a front-nine 29) improved his position in the tournament from a T-17th to 9th place and enhanced his final priority-ranking position (ended up 30th). Was one of five who played his way into a PGA Tour card at the Web.com Tour Championship.
2016 Notes: Had his PGA Tour career best finish, 4th at the OHL Classic at Mayakoba.
