Johnson Wagner

Twice named all-state in high school. Captained his high school hockey team as a junior and senior. Brother, T.J., played golf at Washington & Lee University. Father teaches computer sciences at the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, N.Y. Grandfather M.T. Wagner was a former treasurer of the USGA. Big fan of the NBA's Dallas Mavericks.
Two-time All-Big East Conference selection. Medalist at the 2002 Big East Conference Championship, won by Virginia Tech. Was a 2002 third-team All-America selection by the Golf Coaches Association. Also won the 2001 Metropolitan Open at Bethpage Black as an amateur. Made his professional debut at the 2002 Metropolitan Open at Winged Foot. Posted rounds of 69-68-70 to win by five strokes and collect $23,000 first-place check.

In 2010 both of his top-10 finishes came in his last five starts of the season. First top-10 was a T8th at the Viking Classic, his first top-10 since the 2009 SBS Championship in Hawaii. Finished second in his only other start, at the Viking Classic in 2007. Posted a T3rd at the Children's Miracle Network Classic, making a charge at the top 125 on the season-ending money list until a double bogey on the par-4 16th hole dropped him from a second to T3rd. Finished No. 126 on the final money list after entering the week No. 153.
2011 Notes: Claimed his second career Tour title in just his third start of the season, in playoff fashion, at the Mayakoba Golf Classic in Mexico. The win was one of five top-25 finishes in 25 starts.
2012 Notes: Best season to date, got off to a Great start by finishing T9th at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions, then winning the Sony Open in Hawaii. The next week he finished 2nd at the Humana Challenge. Got his next and last top-ten by finish T4th at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. Went on to finish 36th in the FedEx Cup race and 35th on the money list with earnings of $2,225,007.
2013 Notes: Made nine of 24 cuts and finished 121st in the final FedExCup standings. Jumped out to a share of the first-round lead at The Greenbrier Classic with an 8-under 62 and then carried a two-stroke lead into the final round. A 3-over 73 on a weather-delayed final round led to a T-2nd finish, two shot behind Jonas Blixt. It was his first top-10 finish of the season. Three starts later, notched second top-10 with a solo 10th-place finish at the Reno-Tahoe Open.
2014 Notes: Missed the FedExCup Playoffs for the first time in four years. Finished 150th in the FedExCup standings. Made 11 cuts in 24 starts, with a pair of top-25 showings. Failed to regain fully-exempt status for the 2014-15 PGA TOUR Season via the Web.com Tour Finals, a T-32nd at the Nationwide Children's Hospital Championship his best performance in the four tournaments.
In 2015 had a slow start to his year until he returned to the Shell Houston Open, site of his first win in 2008. Playing on a sponsor's exemption, he made a 25-foot putt on the 72nd hole to get into a playoff with Jordan Spieth and J.B. Holmes, but lost to Holmes with Wagner made bogey on the second playoff hole. Early in the week, said he was dedicating the week to his father, who had undergone successful lung surgery a week earlier. Got his second top-ten with a T-5th at the John Deere and then the next week had a T-10th at the Barbasol. Going into the Bridgestone Wagner is 94th in the FedEx Cup race and should be able to make the playoffs.
