My DraftKings picks for the week

Last week we started a new chart and the response from your folks was that you liked it.

Of course it’s not going to be full-proof in giving six winning players, gosh I picked both Jason Day and Dustin Johnson in San Diego a couple of weeks back and both missed the cut. So there are times that nothing will work but what this chart will do is give you a point of reference on how your pick has done in making cuts over the last two seasons (since the start of the 2015 season) and also how they stand in the parbreaker category for 2017. These two items are important, first for getting six players into the weekend and the parbreaker list so that you can see who makes the most birdies and eagles, which is an important element in earning points.
You can find this list at “Making most cuts, Genesis” with this link and it’s the field for those playing in the Genesis Open.
Give me feedback on your thoughts and we will be looking to make it better looking and able to sort in the future.

So how did last week go?
Still frustrating. On the PGA Tour I again picked the winner Jordan Spieth, but my other chooses didn’t do as well. Two of them Roberto Castro and Ryan Blaum missed the cut which then put a lot of strain on my other picks. My choice in Steve Stricker was good and bad, he shot 70-69 over the weekend to finish T-23rd, but he lacked in making me points with an eagle, but only 13 birdies. But I was mostly disappointed in Adam Hadwin, who shot 73 on Sunday to fall back into a T-39th. I was disappointed in his firepower, he made one eagle and 12 birdies. My second pick of Justin Rose faded on Sunday, shooting a 73 to finish T-39th and he did better in the birdie department with 17, but had no eagles. So with this lineup I didn’t make any money and it was a $38 loss. On the I again got caught in the missed cut blues as Thomas Aiken, Nacho Elvira and Graeme Storm missed the cut. My number one pick in Rafael Cabrera-Bello didn’t do well, finishing T-34th and Peter Uihlein who led after a first round 66, struggled the rest of the way to finish T-34th. My pick of David Lipsky almost won and got robbed when Fabrizio Zanotti finished birdie-eagle to snatch a one shot win over Lipsky. Thank goodness that Lipsky had four rounds in the 60s that got me five points and barley carried me in two games which won $30, but I bet $40 so it was a $10 loss. For the week it was a $48 loss.

Picks for Genesis open
With the European Tour having a unique format of match play on Sunday, there is no game and we are left with just one, the Genesis Open. Lot’s of good choices, the favorite is Jordan Spieth at $12,600, Hideki Matsuyama at $11,500, Dustin Johnson at $11,400, Adam Scott at $10,300, Jason Day at $10,000 and Justin Thomas at $9,600. All of these players will be good choices and I can easily see the winner coming out of this group. My number one pick is Sergio Garcia at $9,300 and the reason why is that he is playing well, coming off of a win in Dubai. He also has a pair of T-4s in 2015 and 2012. He did miss the cut last year, but Garcia’s ball-striking is perfect for this course. His weakness in putting gets rubbed out because the poa anna greens of Riviera will give everyone fits. Now in my first go-around I wanted Jordan Spieth, but I just couldn’t make that work with four other picks. So I took Dustin Johnson at $11,400, Johnson finished 4th last year, T-2nd in 2015 and 2nd in 2014. He hangs out over the mountain from Riviera with Wayne Gretzky at Sherwood Country Club so the fit is good for him. It’s also a good fit for me because originally with taking Spieth I was going to take Luke List at $6,400. But in trading in Jordan for Dustin, it gave me salary cap room to trade List for Francesco Molinari at $7,800. He’s a great choice because in 2017 in four starts he hasn’t been higher than 14th so I expect some good things from him. Rounding out my picks I have Jim Furyk at $6,700, who has a good track record at Riviera At $7,500 I got Charles Howell III, who always makes money and has won at Riviera and my last choice is Brendan Steele at $7,100 who I think is a steal with no missed cuts in seven 2017 starts and only one finish outside of the top-30.
So I am really excited about this week, love my six guys and expect to see them all tee up on Sunday.

So what do you think and who are your picks for this week?
