DrafKings picks for the week

With the PGA Tour going to a team event this week there is no DraftKings games for the Zurich. So the only game in town is the Volvo China Open. First of all should talk about our fantasy game of the week. Well there wasn’t one, we only got 175 players and according to DraftKings rule there isn’t a game and it got canceled. It was the first time that we didn’t get our mark. Have to also report why we aren’t doing a DraftKings league, again they have several limitations that would make it not only hard to keep up with on a weekly basis, but I also don’t like that they are complete inflexible on a lot of things like game size and payouts. So we will just have games during the big tournaments, will run one for the Players Championship.

So how did I do last week?
It was a combination of good and bad, first on the three games that I played on the European Tour my guys didn’t do very well. Both Scott Hend and Carlos Pigem missed the cut and even though I had Alexander Levy, who finished T-8th and Pablo Larrazabal who finished T-11th it was a total lost of $35.
But I did very well on the PGA Tour. I played six games for $69 and won $95 for a gain of $26. I had the winner Kevin Chappell on my card and Sung Kang that finished T-6th. Ryan Moore after a good start folded on the weekend and finished T-18th and Daniel Summerhays and Harold Varner III also finished way down the list. But the biggest disappointment was Luke List. After opening with a 68, knew I was in trouble when he made five bogeys in his first six holes. Things never got better and he shot a 78 and went from T-6th place to missing the cut by two shots. This was a very big disappointment because if he would of made the cut, he would of won me more points that could of improved my earnings. But that’s the DraftKings life, you win some and lose a whole bunch.
Now I played four games over the weekend that only cost $27 feeling that I could do Ok in picking players that would make lots of birdies and eagles over the weekend. Of my original six I kept just Kevin Chappell and added Tony Finau, Branden Grace, Cameron Smith, Camilo Villegas and Jimmy Walker and they all scored big time for me to the tune of $152 so I felt pretty good making a profit of $116 for the week. I am very intrigued in playing the weekend games, a combination of looking up their ParBreaker rankings and how many birdies they made in the first two rounds seemed to be a good strategy.

Picks for the Volvo China Open
This is the only game in town and I don’t think they will have a weekend game, so it’s almost like an off week. Still there is some good players in the field in Beijing. The first thing is to be careful in looking over the players since close to half of them are either Chinese or Koreans and don’t have much of a chance. So of the field of 156, half of the players are at the $6,500 or below range and trust me when I say the pickings is not very good. So you have to be careful not to go top-heavy this week, the top priced guys are Bernd Wiesberger at $12,000 (a Kings ransom only because he won last week), Ross Fisher, also a Kings ransom at $11,800, Joost Luiten at $10,400, Jordan L. Smith at $10,200 and Fabrizio Zanotti at $9,900. Of those five I like Fisher and Zanotti. Also liked Alexander Levy at $9,400 but as I said you can’t go top-heavy this week, these guys are just too much. So I kept Fisher at $11,800 and then went to the bottom of the heap to see if their were any gems. On the way found Peter Uihien, who I always seem to like at $8,300 and then started to bottom feed. First up was Matteo Manassero at $6,500 who was low because he missed the cut last year. The important thing about him, he had one good finish at the Hero Indian Open at T-3rd, but the rest are down the list but he has made the cut in six of seven starts, very important. In going up found a gem in Gregory Havret at only $6,700. Liked him because he finished T-13th last year on this course and he has made the cut in his last five starts. He isn’t going to get me a top-ten, but he made nine birdies and only 11 bogeys at the Shenzhen last week in finishing T-67th. So looking for a top-25 out of him. So that left me with $16,600 for my two choices. I was very surprised to see Edoardo Molinari at only $7,100, he won in Morocco two weeks ago and finished 70th last week. He has been very solid all year making seven of seven cuts, so he was my fifth choice. That left me enough money to pick Alexander Levy at $9,400. Now I also had a scenario of taking Rickie Ramsay at $7,700 and David Lipsky at $8,900, I liked Lipsky but the picks were weakened by Ramsay. So here are my six picks for the week:
Ross Fisher at $11,800
Alexander Levy at $9,400
Peter Uihien at $8,300
Edoardo Molinari at $7,100
Gregory Havret at only $6,700
Matteo Manassero at $6,500

One reminder remember they are playing in China with a big time change so all picks have to be made by Wednesday night at 6:40, so don’t get caught short.
