DrafKings picks for the week

Heard back from several of you about the Golfstats DraftKings game and we will have one next week for the Players Championship. We will probably invite 150 players and the game will be $5 so check back for more details.

So how did I do last week?
So with no PGA Tour game we only had the European Tour game which was the Volvo China Open. I was never very comfortable in making my six picks, I realize that if it takes a while and I have to go back and redo players, it’s probably not good. So it was a mix bag last week, I played in six games at a cost of $46 and even though my card had the winner Alexander Levy and Ross Fisher, who finished T-6th I had two players missed the cut (Gregory Havret & Edoardo Molinari) and by picks of Peter Uihlein (T-31st) and Matteo Manassero (T-36th) wasn’t good enough to get into the money. So for those games it was a loss of $46. One thing about my picks, Levy was picked by around 25% of the players and Uihlein was picked by 50% of the players, so even though Levy won and Uihlein finished ok, so many others had them my other picks dragged me down. I then played in the weekend game, was in four games at the cost of $45, carried over Levy and Uihlein along with Graeme Storm, Pablo Larrazabal, Thomas Detry and George Coetzee. Did ok but only one ticket paid $13.50 so it was a total loss of $77.50.

Picks for the Wells Fargo
With the European Tour playing a team event this week, the PGA Tour is the only game in town. Now the Wells Fargo has a new venue and doesn’t have as many marquee names, so the picking is tough. The new course brings in a different set of problems, you don’t have the courses for horses advantage and since everyone is playing the course and learning it for the first time, it brings a different set of problems. I talked more about the strategy of who to take in my Wells Fargo preview & picks to make it short and sweat for this report, I am going with players that are doing well,(check our Who’s Hot) along with players that play well on southeastern courses with bermuda, that putting is important on the pristine bent greens of Eagle Point and that I feel a long hitter that hits a lot of greens is the target player to chose. In looking at the list of players and their cost, Dustin Johnson is at a very ridiculous price of $13,000 followed by Jon Rahm at $11,000, Phil Mickelson at $10,200, Adam Scott at $9,900 and Paul Casey at $9,900. The first thing is the price of Dustin Johnson, he hasn’t played in six weeks, mostly because of his injury. Now I don’t think their will be any repercussions from that injury, but I think this week is a dry run for next week’s Players Championship. I know that he goes into the week with a streak of three wins in a row, but I can’t see him winning and if he does, you can give him Player of the Year right now. One other thing, in taking a player at such a high price you are limiting your options for the other five picks so I will take a pass on Johnson, even though he may have a top-ten finish. Of the others I only like Jon Rahm at $11,000 so he is my first pick. After that the other picks seem to fall into place very well. My second pick is Kevin Kisner at $8,400, I like that he almost won last week at Zurich, he was T-11th at the Heritage, T-2nd at the Palmer, is long off the tee and a good putter. Most importantly he plays his best on Southeastern courses that tend to have windy conditions (I forgot to add that to a big key, weather calls for moderate winds this week). So that was easy. My other four picks are a bit of a gamble, but I feel very comfortable with three of them, Daniel Berger at $8,300, Kevin Tway at $7,200 and Brian Gay at $6,900. All three shows a tendency to play well on courses like Eagle Point and can also play in the wind. Gay is a good putter, Berger can give it some stick and Tway is playing well. My last pick was J.B. Holmes at $8,000. Like him because he does hit it long and was T-5th last week. I am a bit worried that his season has not had many high finishes, only two top-20 finishes but the good news is he only has missed one cut in ten starts. In looking at the other players in the $7,700 to $8,200 range I was only comfortable with Byeong Hun An at $8,200, but I’m not that comfortable with him on a Southeastern course. I am playing five games at a cost of $62,000. So here is my picks:
Jon Rahm at $11,000
Kevin Kisner at $8,400
Daniel Berger at $8,300
J.B. Holmes at $8,000
Kevin Tway at $7,200
Brian Gay at $6,900
