Poom Saksansin turned professional when he was 20 in 2013 as he says he did not want financial support from his parents. It proved to be a decision he would not regret as, to date, he has claimed three titles on the Asian Tour and one on the Asian Development Tour.

Two of those wins came in the BNI Indonesian Masters in 2016 and 2018, while the other was the 2017 TAKE Solutions Masters, where he won wire-to-wire. He was also runner-up in the Thailand Open in 2018. It was in 2015 that he triumphed in the PGM Kinrara Championship in Malaysia on the Asian Development Tour.

He made a name for himself in the 2018 EurAsia Cup when he and Sunghoon Kang defeated Henrik Stenson and Alex Levy in the first day four-ball match 5&4. A month later at the Maybank Championship, Stenson give Poom a EurAsia Cup shirt with an autograph and a message saying: "To Poom, thanks for kicking my ass."

Poom was also an amateur star and helped his country claim the gold medal at the Southeast Asian Games in 2011 and 2013. He reckons he would have been a dentist if he did not go into golf.

Recorded a best-of-the-day closing 65 at the 2020 SMBC Singapore Open to climb into a share of the sixth spot and claim one of the four Open Qualifying Series places up for grabs due to the top three Matt Kuchar, Justin Rose, and Jazz Janewattananond all being exempt for Royal St George's.

He has only played in one event in 2021 finishing T-36th at the Boonchu Ruangkit Championship.
