Three places at Royal St Georgeā??s were up for grabs at the 2020 South African Open and with runner-up Louis Oosthuizen already exempt, Ahlers claimed the last of them by virtue of the fact his world ranking of 217th was eight better than Englandā??s Jack Senior, who also ended up on 15 under par.

Started to play golf at the age of 11 in Skukuza Golf Club, which is set within the confines of South Africa's famous Kruger National Park.

Ahlers has played on the Sunshine Tour since 2006. He has won nine tournaments, the 2009 Vodacom Business Origins of Golf Tour at Erinvale, the 2014 Lion of Africa Cape Town Open, the 2015 Investec Cup, the 2016 KCM Zambia Open (winning all four in sudden-death playoffs), the 2016 Sun Wild Coast Sun Challenge, the 2016 Vodacom Origins of Golf (Euphoria), the 2018 Dimension Data Pro-Am and the 2019 King's Cup and Vodacom Origins (Selborne).

Ahlers also played on the Asian Tour in 2011, PGA Tour Canada in 2013, and the European Tour in 2017. Returns to The Open after a 12-year gap and at the age of 38 thanks to his T-4th finish at the 2020 South African Open.
