Aaron Wise

Born in Cape Town, South Africa, Wise was chipping in the backyard with his dad for longer than he can remember. At age 5, he began playing competitively before moving to Lake Elsinore, Calif., during middle school.
During that time, Wise began to spend a lot of time on the tennis court as well as the golf course until he eventually hit a crossroads in his early high school years. He felt he had to choose one sport to work on his game and become great rather than just be good at both. He chose golf.
As a junior in high school, he won the California Interscholastic Federation Central Division Individual Championship. He qualified for the U.S. Amateur three times, in 2013, '14, and '15 but never reached match play. He won the 2015 Pacific Coast Amateur at Eugene (Ore.) Country Club.
Wise's play jumped dramatically when he arrived in Oregon. He earned medalist honors in the fall of his freshman year at the Kaanapali Collegiate Classic. That and earning medalist honors at the Desert Mountain Intercollegiate pushed him to the 2015 Second-Team All-Pac-12 and 2015 DI PING All-Region West Team.
In 2016, Wise became the first player since Kevin Chappell in 2008 to win the NCAA Championship in both the individual and team competitions. He also earned PING First-Team All-American and All-Pace-12 honors.
With all of his success, Wise saw himself at another crossroads. Because he was spending so much time playing golf, he was being forced into a more general degree rather than taking the law classes he was most interested in. He chose golf again and decided to turn professional soon after the NCAA Championships.
2016 Notes: After turning pro, he won the PGA Tour Canada Qualifying Tournament and played in seven Canadian events. He finished in the top 10 in all but two starts (worst finish T-15th), winning the Syncrude Oil Country Championship and finishing 3rd at the Freedom 55 Financial Championship. Ended the year 4th on the money list with $can 65,313 in earnings. Earned medalist honors at U.S. Open qualifying, and made his professional debut at Oakmont Country Club, where he missed the cut. Playing at the John Deere Classic in mid-August, posted rounds of 69-70-63-70 to finish T-16 and make his first cut on the PGA Tour.
2017 Korn Ferry Tour Summary: Tournaments Entered - 16; In Money - 11; Top-10 Finishes - 2; Scoring Average - 69.53 (Rank 9th); Money - $199,922 (Rank 18th); Finals Money - $12,650 (72nd); Priority Rank (36th); Best Finish, 1st, Air Capital Classic. Secured his PGA Tour card for the 2017-18 season with an 18th-place finish on the 2017 Korn Ferry Tour Regular Season money list. Played six PGA Tour events, with his best finish a T-10th at the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open, playing on a sponsor's invite.
2018 Notes: Played 29 PGA Tour events and made 16 cuts with four top-10 finishes. Was 24th in the FedExCup standings. Almost won in his 25th career start on the PGA Tour with a T-2nd finish at the Wells Fargo Championship. Entered the final round one shot back and made just one bogey in shooting 68 to finish two shots behind winner Jason Day. Went into the final round of the AT&T Byron Nelson tied with Marc Leishman at 17-under before closing with a six-under 65 to win by three over the Australian. Wise's first career PGA Tour win came in his 26th career start at the age of 21 years, 10 months, 29 days, making him the youngest winner since Si Woo Kim (21 days, 10 months, 16 days) at the 2017 Players Championship. After the Nelson victory, Wise struggled and missed the cut in his next five starts. He broke the streak at the WGC-Bridgestone, where he shot 67-67 on the weekend to finish T-6th. Opened the FedExCup Playoffs with a T-5th at The Northern Trust and played all four playoff events and finished 24th in the FedExCup race.
2019 Notes: Played in 21 PGA Tour events making 15 cuts with one top-ten finish. Was 114th on the FedExCup points list. Best finish, T-10th at the Mayakoba Golf Classic. In the FedExCup playoffs was T-43rd at the Northern Trust.
2020 Notes: Played in 18 PGA Tour events making six cuts with two top-ten finishes. Was 150th on the FedExCup points list. Was T-3rd at the Bermuda Classic, six shots back of the winner Brendon Todd. It was his best finish on the PGA Tour since winning the 2018 AT&T Byron Nelson. Was 8th at the Barracuda Championship.

Was 2nd at the Mayakoba Golf Classic, he shot a final-round 63 to finish a shot back of winner Viktor Hovland. Opened up the Honda Classic with rounds of 64-64 to lead after 36 holes. But with weekend rounds of 75-72, he finished T-13th. Shot rounds of 68-69 on the weekend to finish T-9th at Wells Fargo. Was T-9th at the Memorial. In the FedExCup Playoffs was T-21st at the Northern Trust and T-17th at the BMW Championship.

Shot 66-64 over the weekend at the Mexico Open at Vidanta to finish T-6th, three shots back of winner Jon Rahm. He finished runner-up at the Memorial, his second consecutive top-10 at the event (T-9th/2021). Played in the final group in the final round with winner Billy Horschel, closing with a 1-under 71. The solo 2nd marked his best finish since the 2020 World Wide Technology Championship at Mayakoba (2nd). In the FedExCup playoffs was T-31st at the FedEx St. Jude Championship, T-15th at the BMW Championship, and T-13th at the Tour Championship.
2023 Notes: Was 6th at the CJ Cup in S.C. Held a share of the lead after a first-round 65 of the Cadence Bank Houston Open before finishing T-22nd. Wise finished T-31st at the WGC-Dell Match Play, but withdrew from the Masters and said he was taking a break from the PGA Tour to focus on his mental health.
