Anna Nordqvist

Started playing golf at age 13 and credits her family and Swedish national coaches Katarina Vangdal and Maria Bertilska as the individuals who most influenced her career. Nordqvist loves to draw, paint, and scrapbook when she's not playing golf. Says she would love to be on the TV show Property Brothers on HGTV. If she could go anywhere for the day, she claims she would choose home or Bora Bora.
Had a successful amateur career in Europe and the United States. Named Swedish Junior Player of the Year in 2004 and 2005. In 2005, won the Girls' British Open Amateur Championship and was runner-up at the French Junior Championship. Earned the bronze medal at the European Championship and was named 2005 Swedish Amateur of the Year.
In 2006, she was runner-up at the British Amateur Championship and won the European Team Amateur.
At Arizona State University, she was named 2007 National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA) Freshman of the Year and also earned back-to-back NGCA First-Team All-American and Academic All-American honors in 2007-08. Was the 2007 Pac-10 Player of the Year, Newcomer of the Year and co-champion.
In 2008, the Pac-10 First Team and All-Academic Second Team were named. Co-medalist at the 2008 PING/ASU Invitational and T-5th at the 2008 NCAA Championships. Won the 2008 Ladies British Open Amateur and represented Sweden at the World Amateur Team Championships, where the team won the gold medal. Made the cut at both the 2007 and 2008 Ricoh Women's British Open and earned low-amateur honors in 2008.
In 2008, T-25th at the LPGA Final Qualifying Tournament to earn Priority List Category 16 for the 2009 LPGA season, turning professional immediately following the final round.
In 2009, became the season's second Rolex first-time winner at the McDonald's LPGA Championship, the second major championship of the year. Also won the season-ending LPGA Tour Championship. Finished seventh at the Safeway Classic and T-7th at the Hana Bank-Kolon Championship. T-8th at the CN Canadian Women's Open and then qualified for her first European Solheim Cup Team, joining Tania Elosegui as LPGA's rookie on the 12-member squad. Finished second to Jiyai Shin in the Louise Suggs Rolex Rookie of the Year race and was named the Ryder Cup Wales Ladies European Tour Rookie of the Year.
In 2010, won the Mojo 6, an unofficial LPGA event. T-2nd at the LPGA State Farm Classic and T-8th at the Navistar LPGA Classic, then T-9th at the P&G NW Arkansas Championship before tying for 10th at the Kraft Nabisco Championship.
In 2011, Nordqvist recorded five top-10 finishes: T-2nd at the Lorena Ochoa Invitational, T-4th at the Sunrise LPGA Taiwan Championship, T-5th at the ShopRite LPGA Classic, T-7th at the Ricoh Women's British Open, and T-10th at the Kraft Nabisco Championship. Competed on her second European Solheim Cup Team with a 2-2-0 record and won the European Nations Cup on the LET with Sophie Gustafson. Played in four events on the LET schedule with a season-best T7 finish at the Ricoh Women's British Open.
In 2012, played 28 events, making 26 cuts and earning $688,703. She had 11 top-10 finishes, with a best finish of T5 at the Shoprite LPGA, Sybase Match Play, and Mizuno Classic. Crossed the $2 million mark in career earnings after a T31 finish at the Mobile Bay LPGA Classic.
During the 2013 season, she made all 26 cuts and finished 20th on the Tour money list. Had five top-10 finishes and shot an 11-under 61 in the third round of the Mobile Bay LPGA Classic, the low round of the year in relation to par 72. Crossed the $3 million mark in career earnings after a T-11th at the U.S. Women's Open. Competed on her third European Solheim Cup team and posted a record of 2-1-1.
2014 Notes: She was a career-best seventh on the LPGA money list with $1,144,245 and 10th in CME points with two wins and 24 cuts made in 26 starts and eight top-10 finishes. She was T-1st on Tour in GIR (77.1 percent) with Suzann Pettersen. She ended a five-year victory drought at the LPGA Thailand when she beat defending champion Inbee Park by two shots. Nordqvist held the lead for the last three days and shot a final-round 68 for a 15-under 273. She won for the second time in four starts at the Kia Classic. She shot a final-round 67 to come from behind and beat Lizette Salas by a shot. The wins came after an eventful offseason when she changed equipment and started working with instructor Jorge Parada. She missed the cut at the LOTTE Championship, ending her streak of consecutive cuts made at 39. She finished second at the Airbus LPGA Classic in Mobile, Ala., at 19 under 269, one back of winner Jessica Korda.
2015 Notes: Nordqvist made 24 of 25 cuts with 10 top-10 finishes and ranked 10th on the LPGA money list. She won the ShopRite Classic with birdies on the 16th and 17th holes for a one-shot win. Nordqvist finished in the top 10 in three majors, T-4th at the ANA Inspiration, T-7th at the RICOH British Open, and T-9th at the KPMG Women's PGA Championship, but her only missed cut of the year came at the U.S. Women's Open. She played on her 4th European Solheim Cup team, going 2-2 in the matches.
2016 Notes: Played in 25 LPGA events and made the cut in all 25. She had seven top-ten finishes. In one of them, Nordqvist successfully defended her ShopRite Classic title with rounds of 64-68-64 for 17-under 196 and her sixth career win. She was T-2nd at the Pure Silk Bahamas LPGA Classic to start out the year. Also, runner-up at the U.S. Women's Open, losing a playoff to Brittany Lang after they tied at 6-under 282 at CordeValle. Lang made par on all three holes of the aggregate playoff, and Nordqvist was given a two-stroke penalty for touching the sand with her club in a fairway bunker on the second extra hole to finish the playoff at three over. She was 7th on the money list with $1,424,945 and 16th in CME points. She was T-11th at the Rio Olympics on Sweden's golf team member.
2017 Notes: Played in 20 LPGA events, making 17 cuts. Recorded the 3rd multiple-win season of her career and won her 2nd major championship at The Evian Championship, beating Brittany Altomare in a one-hole playoff. She also won the Bank of Hope Founders Cup for her 7th LPGA title. Nordqvist shot a 25-under 263 with a 61 in the third round to beat Ariya Jutanugarn, Stacy Lewis, and In Gee Chun by two shots. She finished 2nd at the LET's Mediterranean Ladies Open in Barcelona, losing to Florentyna Parker on the 4th hole of a sudden-death playoff. She was second in the ShopRite Classic, two back of In-Kyung Kim. She missed the KPMG Women's PGA Championship cut, ending her LPGA streak of consecutive cuts made at 45. She suffered from mononucleosis prior to the Ricoh Women's British Open but finished T-7th. Made the European Solheim Cup team for a 5th time, thanks to being a captain's pick by Annika Sorenstam, and was 3-0-1 in the matches. That included a halve with Lexi Thompson in singles. Nordqvist was four holes up in that match, but Thompson went 8-under in seven holes (including two eagles) to halve the match. After her Evian win, she added another top-10 with a 3rd at the Toto Japan Classic and finished 8th on the money list.
2018 Notes: Played in 25 LPGA Tour events, making 20 cuts with six top-10 finishes. She began the season working with swing coach Cameron McCormick, but their partnership ended with Nordqvist missing the U.S. Women's Open cut. Her other 2018 best finishes were T-7th at the KIA Classic, T-10th at the Kingsmill Championship, T-4th at the Meijer LPGA Classic, and T-3rd at the Thornberry Creek LPGA Classic. The year was 47th on the money list with $502,041 and 36th in the Race to CME. Nordqvist got engaged to Kevin McAlpine and plans to marry in Scotland in July 2020.
2019 Notes: Played in 26 LPGA Tour events, making 20 cuts with one top-ten finish. She was 54th on the money list with $393,685 in earnings, and she was 59th on the CME points list. Best finish 4th at the ShopRite LPGA Classic, five shots back of winner Lexi Thompson. Nordqvist played in her six Solheim Cup and was 1-2-0, with her only win coming in singles over Morgan Pressel, 4 and 3.
2020 Notes: Played in 14 LPGA Tour events, making 14 cuts with four top-ten finishes. She was 15th on the money list with $572,179 in earnings, and she finished 21st on the CME points list. During the break for COVID-19, she played in several Cactus Tour events and won the Moon Valley event in Arizona. Was 2nd at the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship, Nordqvist led after the 1st and 2nd rounds with rounds of 64-62 but lost by two shots when Austin Ernst shot 63 in the final round. She was 5th at the KPMG Women's PGA Championship, then T-6th at the VOA Texas Shootout, and T-10th at the CME Group Tour Championship.
2021 Notes: Played in 19 LPGA events, making 18 cuts with three top-ten finishes. Finished 24th on the CME Points list and 9th on the money list with earnings of $1,258,467. In March, she married Kevin McAlpine in Arizona. Was T-9th at the Bank of Hope LPGA Match-Play, losing in the Round of 16 to Ariya Jutanugam 4 & 3. She was 5th at the Meijer LPGA Classic, five shots back of the winner, Nelly Korda. She was T-23rd at the Tokyo Olympics as a member of Sweden's women's golf team. Shot 65-69 over the weekend to win the AIG Women's Open by a shot over Lizette Salas, Georgia Hall, and Madelene Sagstrom. She played in her seventh Solheim Cup and had a 2-1-1 record. In her singles match, she halved it with Lexi Thompson. Ended her season with a T-12th finish at the CME Group Tour Championship.
2022 Notes: Played in 21 LPGA Tour events, making 20 cuts with two top-ten finishes. She was 23rd on the money list with $1,064,670 in earnings and was 48th in CME points. She was T-6th at the U.S. Women's Open; she was nine shots back of the winner, Minjee Lee. She was 3rd at the season-ending CME Group Tour Championship, three shots back of the winner, Lydia Ko. Played in 7 LET events, making 6 cuts, he was 22nd on the money list with earnings of Euro150709 and was 35th in the Race to Costa Del Sol. She won the Big Green Egg Open on the LET by one shot over Sarah Schober. It was her first individual victory on the LET outside of her major title.
2023 Notes: Played in 18 LPGA Tour events, making 14 cuts with three top-ten finishes. She was 33rd on the money list with $879,325 in earnings and was 48th in CME points. She also played in six LET events, making five cuts. She was T-9th at the Bank of Hope LPGA Match-Play; she lost her round of 16 match to Albane Valenzuela, 1 Up. Shot a final-round 65 to finish T-3rd at the KPMG Women's PGA Championship, two shots back of winner Ruoning Yin. She was a member of the European Solheim Cup team and was 1-3-0 in the matches, where she also served as an assistant captain. It was her eighth Solheim Cup appearance (2009, 2011, 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, 2021, 2023). In August, said she was getting divorced from her husband, Kevin McAlpine. In October, McAlpine passed away unexpectedly. She ended her LPGA season at the CME Group Tour Championship, finishing T-50th. Her last LET event was T-11th at the Big Green Egg Open.
2024 Notes: Played in 22 LPGA Tour events, making 16 cuts with seven top-25 finishes. She was 77th on the money list with $475,773 in earnings and was 73rd in CME points. Best LPGA Tour finish T-12th at the Cognizant Founders Cup and Meijer LPGA Classic. She was named to the European Solheim Cup team as a captain?s pick. Playing in her ninth Solheim, she was 2- 2-0 in the matches. She also served as one of the team?s assistant captains. She lost her singles match to Allisen Corpuz 4 & 3. Played in five LET events, best finish was T-14th in the Aramco Team Series-London.
2025 Notes: Her best LPGA finish was T-31st at the U.S. Women's Open, and on the LET, she was T-29th at the KPMG Women's Irish Open. In February, Nordqvist was named captain of the 2026 European Solheim Cup team.
