Ben Crenshaw

Crenshaw enjoyed an outstanding amateur career, winning nearly every title with the notable exception of the U.S. Amateur. He won the NCAA Championship three consecutive years for the University of Texas, sharing the title in 1972 with teammate Tom Kite. He was the Low Amateur in the 1972 and 1973 Masters.
After turning professional in 1973, Crenshaw earned his Tour card, gaining medalist honors at Q-School by 12 strokes. Made history when he won the San Antonio-Texas Open in his first start as a member of the PGA Tour. On his second start, he was runner-up.
Owns 19 PGA Tour victories, but also holds the dubious distinction of having the worst playoff record on Tour, winning none and losing eight. Two of the best moments in his career came at Augusta National, winning the Masters in 1984 by two strokes over Tom Watson, then winning again in 1995, a week after the death of his beloved mentor, Harvey Penick.
Months after his Masters win in 1984, Crenshaw began suffering from a hyperactive thyroid, and his play in 1985 showed the effects of the illness, as he fell to 149th on the money list. With the condition under control by 1986, he won twice that year, and once each in 1987 and 1988.
Member of 1981, '83, '87, and '95 U.S. Ryder Cup Teams. Captain of the 1999 Ryder Cup Team. Winner of the 1991 Bob Jones Award and the 1989 William Richardson Award. Inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2002.
Since 1986, Crenshaw has been a partner with Bill Coore in Coore & Crenshaw, a golf course design firm. The company has designed more than 30 courses and renovated a dozen around the world. One of those renovation projects was Pinehurst No. 2, host of the 2014 U.S. Open and 2014 U.S. Women's Open.
Made his 44th and last appearance as a competitor at the Masters in 2015. Only Gary Player (52), Arnold Palmer (50), Doug Ford (49), Jack Nicklaus (45), Raymond Floyd (45), and Billy Casper (45) have had more starts at Augusta National.
After 2015, Crenshaw largely stopped playing on PGA Tour Champions. In 2016, finished T-28th at the Bass Pro Shops Legends teamed with Jerry Pate. In 2017, was 47th at the Mitsubishi Electric Championship at Hualalai and T-33rd at the Bass Pro Shops Legends teamed with Jerry Pate. In 2018, finished T-33rd at the Bass Pro Shops Legends, again with Jerry Pate. Hasn't played competitively since.
