Bob Gilder

Was one of several stars for the Arizona State golf team, including standouts Howard Twitty and Tom Purtzer. The team won the 1973 Western Athletic Conference title. After graduating in 1973, he tried for his Tour card but failed in three attempts. Won the New Zealand Open in 1974, beating Jack Newton and Bob Charles in a playoff. He earned his card during his fourth trip to Qualifying School, and in his second tournament in 1976 won the Phoenix Open. In his next four years, he made the top 75 in earnings and visited the winner's circle again with a victory in the 1980 Canadian Open. His best season on tour came in 1982 when he won three times (Byron Nelson, Westchester and Bank of Boston) and earned $308,648. He finished sixth on the money list and played on the 1983 Ryder Cup Team.
One of his most memorable moments includes a double-eagle two he made on the 18th hole, on national TV, during the third round of the 1983 Manufacturers Hanover Westchester Classic. Won the Phoenix Open again in 1983, defeating Rex Caldwell, Johnny Miller and Mark O'Meara in an eight-hole playoff. In 1988, he won the Kapalua International, defeating John Mahaffey by two strokes.
Played full-time on the PGA Tour between 1976 and 2000. In 660 events played, he won six times, recorded 67 top-10 finishes and accumulated earnings of $3 million.
2011 Notes: Birdied three of the final four holes to shoot a final-round 65 to win the Principal Charity Classic by one stroke over Mark Brooks, his 10th Champions Tour victory. At 60 years, 6 months and 5 days, he became one of 20 winners age 60+.
2012 Notes: Another busy season with 20-plus starts on his schedule for the 12th consecutive year. Best finishes were a pair of T-14ths at The Principal Charity Classic, in defense of his 2011 title, and at the Dick's Sportings Goods Open. Was among the top 25 at the Senior British Open (T-23rd), pushing his all-time record for consecutive starts in senior majors to 58-straight events. Closing in on 1,000 combined career starts on the PGA Tour and Champions Tour, he started the year at 976 events.
2013 Notes: Played in all 25 events for which he was eligible and reached a career milestone in October when he played in his 1,000th event (PGA Tour and Champions Tour) at the Greater Hickory Kia Classic at Rock Barn, becoming just the 19th player in history with as many combined starts on both circuits in his career. His best finish during the year was in his final start when he was T-22nd at the AT&T Championship in San Antonio. He finished the year 84th on the money list. Played in all five major championships, extending his all-time record for consecutive starts in senior majors to 63 straight events.
2014 Notes: Played in all 24 events for which he was eligible, best finish was T-12th at the Constellation Seniors Players Championship and final-round 7-under 63 at Fox Chapel matched his age. It was also his best score since he posted a final-round 63 at the 2009 ACE Group Classic. Performance at Fox Chapel G.C. came in his record 66th consecutive start in a senior major championship.
2015 Notes: Played in every event for which he was eligible (22), best effort was at the Bass Pro Shops Legends of Golf, where he and teammate Bobby Wadkins finished T-5th. Played in all five major championships once again and has now played in every major championship since joining the Champions Tour, a streak of 73 in a row. Has also played in 106 consecutive tournaments for which he was eligible on Tour heading into 2016.
2016 Notes: Played in 19 events, the fewest since joining Champions in 2001. Best finish was T-30th with partner Bobby Wadkins at the Bass Pro Shops Legends. Saw his streak of consecutive starts in major championships on Champions end at 75 when he did not qualify for the Constellation Senior Players Championship.
2017 Notes: Played in 18 events, best finish T-33rd at the Bass Pro Shops Legends of golf with partner Billy Mayfair. Best individual finish T-50th Mississippi Gulf Resort.
2018 Notes: Played in seven PGA Tour Champions events. Best finish T-33rd at the Bass Pro Shops Legends of golf with partner Craig Stadler.
2019 Notes: Best finish T-34th at the Bass Pro Shops Legends of golf with partner Morris Hatalsky.
