Played on the golf team at UCLA with Scott McCarron. Member of 1988 NCAA Championship team while at UCLA. Professional career started on the Canadian Tour, then the Asian Tour and then the Japan Golf Tour. In 1999 joined the PGA Tour as a special temporary member in September. Had first two career top-20s in major championships with T-14th at Masters and T-16th at PGA Championship. Played on the Japan Golf Tour from 1995-1999 with six victories and a pair of runner-up finishes.
In 2004 played in only nine PGA Tour events due to left wrist problems after surgery in 2003 when he shattered the hook of the left hamate bone right before the 2003 Western Open. These injuries were bothersome for the next couple of years but the worst of his spate of injuries came in November of 2006 in a freak home accident. While sweeping his garage the broom handle broke and severed the tip of his left index finger and the base of his left thumb. Had to endure several surgeries, lucky that when the accident happened he put the parts of his finger into a bag and took it to the hospital where they were surgically sewn on.
Before the 2010 season decided to play on the Korn Ferry Tour, where he made 12 of 23 cuts and finished 30th on the money list. Moved over to the PGA Tour in 2011 with a T6 finish at Q-School in 2010.
2010 Korn Ferry Tour Summary: Tournaments entered - 23; in money - 12; Top-10 finishes -5; scoring average 69.50 (ranked 10th); money $194,176 (ranked 30th); Best finish, T-2nd WNB Golf Classic.

Notched his first top-three showing since the 2005 season. With the finish, he registered his fourth runner-up performance in 283 starts on Tour without a victory. Finished year 51st on both the FedEx Cup standings and money race.
2012 Notes: Followed an opening-round 76 by going 69-67-66 to finish T-9th at the Puerto Rico Open for his top finish. Made only 17 other starts due to a herniated disc in July in which he didn't play again for the rest of the season.
2013 Notes: Started year on a major medical extension, and failed to meet the terms of his extension in 10 starts. Also fell $12,790 short of securing conditional status and will play out the rest of the season as a Veteran Member. Played 19 times, best finish was T-13th at the Reno-Tahoe Open.

Closed with a 7-under-par 65 to finish one stroke behind eventual winner Cameron Percy. Was also T-24th at the Midwest Classic near Kansas City in July. Did not make a start on the PGA Tour for the first time since 1989. Non-Exempt Medical Extension earned him a spot in the Korn Ferry Tour Finals, where he missed the cut at the Hotel Fitness Championship and was a WD from the Chiquita Classic.
