Brian Davis

Brian Davis played on the European Team between 1997 and 2004. In 2004, he became the first Englishman to win the PGA Tour Q-School, which gave him privileges in America, and he switched to that tour. Won his first European title, the Open de Espana at the PGA Golf de Catalunya in May 2000, when he met his wife-to-be, Julie, a former air stewardess, and daughter of former England goalkeeper Ray Clemence. He enjoyed his best season in 2003, breaking into the top 10 on the Order of Merit in ninth place, and he was assisted by 11 top-10 finishes, including third in the year-ending Volvo Masters. Began the next season on a high note, winning the ANZ Championship in Australia, which set up appearances in all four majors in 2004. In 1998, he contracted chickenpox on a flight home to the UK from South Africa. Taken ill with the virus in Dubai and spent a week in intensive care with seriously high blood clot levels. Became the first Englishman to win the PGA Tour Qualifying School finals at the end of 2004, shooting a 17-under-par total of 415.
On his first season on the PGA Tour (2005), finished 98th on the money list. Also played in eight European Tour events. In 2005 finished T3rd in the Nissan Open, but it was shortened to 36 holes and was unofficial. His first top-10 finish on PGA Tour came at Shell Houston Open, T7th.
In 2007, he got his first runner-up finish at the Stanford St. Jude Championship, and added another in 2008 at the Legends Reno-Tahoe Open, then the 2009 HP Byron Nelson. In 2010, he lost a playoff to Jim Furyk at the Verizon Heritage -- in that playoff, on his third shot out of a greenside hazard, Davis called a two-stroke penalty on himself after touching a loose impediment during his backswing (Rule 13-4), ensuring Furyk's victory. A month later, he had his fifth runner-up finish at the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial.
Since joining the PGA Tour, he has never been outside the top 125 on the money list between 2007 and 2014, and with his earnings over the $1 million mark in 2012, he has accomplished that feat seven straight years.
Has had two bouts with skin cancer and is affiliated with The Skin Cancer Foundation with the hopes he can educate people about the dangers of the sun and what role prevention can have in helping people maintain their health. Charity efforts also go toward the Arnold Palmer Hospital in Orlando, Fla., which treated his son, Henry, who was born with kidney issues, and his daughter, Madeline, after she suffered two collapsed lungs right after birth.

His final priority-ranking position was 48th.
2016 Notes: Only played in 9 PGA Tour events, making one cut, T-28th at the Sanderson Farms Championship. Had suffered most of the year with neck and back pains, shutting things down after missing the cut at the FedEx St. Jude Classic in June.
