Callum Shinkwin

He began his sporting life as a junior boxer, a talent that is in his blood. His cousin Miles Shinkwin is a light heavyweight professional boxer who competes nationally and hopes for an international career. Miles won his 12th successive fight on the Friday evening of the 2015 NBO Golf Classic Grand Final before Callum claimed a European Tour card for the first time in his career the following day with tied third place in Oman, securing the 13th spot in the Rankings.
He is from Hertfordshire, England, and is a Moor Park Golf Club member. Callum had a stellar amateur career, including winning the Carris Trophy and the South American Amateur Championship. He celebrated the biggest win of his amateur career in 2013 when he defeated Matthew Fitzpatrick 4&3 in a thrilling 36-hole final of the English Amateur Championship. This led him to be selected for the prestigious Walker Cup team later that year.
2014 Notes: On turning pro was able to get a European Challenge Tour card for 2014. He played in 19 events making 13 cuts with 5 top-10 finishes. Best was 2nd at the Challenge de Catalunya and then a T-3rd at the Rolex Trophy. He finished the year 34th on the Road to Oman.
2015 Notes: Back on the Challenge tour with the help of experienced caddie David McNeilly, who has carried the bag for Sir Nick Faldo, Retief Goosen, and Padraig Harrington. He played in 15 events making 9 cuts. Was in the top-10, 5 times, with three 3rd place finishes at the Turkish Airlines Challenge, Kazakhstan Open, and NBO Golf Classic. The last third-place finish helped him to 13th in the Race to Oman, thus getting his European Tour card for 2016.
2016 Notes: In his first year on the European Tour, he played in 23 events making 17 cuts with 2, top-ten finishes. He got his first top-10 of the year at the French Open. His T-9th finish got him a spot into the Open Championship at Troon. Was T-8th at the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open. They finished 83rd in the Race to Dubai with euros399,363 in earnings.
2017 Notes: Played in 22 European Tour events making 10 cuts with two top-ten finishes. He got off to a slow start after finishing T-23rd in Abu Dhabi; he didn't play on the weekend in 9 straight events. He made the cut in the French Open but shot 81 on the final day to finish T-66th. In his next start in Ireland finished T-30th, his best finish since Abu Dhabi. He had things rolling on the back nine on Sunday at the Scottish Open; he went into the 72nd hole with a one-shot lead but bogey the par 5 and then lost the playoff to Rafa Cabrera Bello when he birdied the first extra hole. Shinkwin did get a second consolation prize with a trip to play in the British Open, but he missed the cut at Royal Birkdale. He got to play in all the playoff events for the year, earned euro1,007,482, and placed 22nd in the Race to Dubai.
2018 Notes: Played in 22 European Tour events making 11 cuts with one top-ten finish. Best finish T-8th at the Italian Open, he won euro265,543 but lost his tour card since he finished 119th in the Race to Dubai. He regained limited status for 2019 at the Final Qualifying stage.
2019 Notes: Played in 21 European Tour events making 11 cuts with five top-ten finishes. Was 100th in the Race to Dubai. Finished T-10th at both the ISPS Handa Vic Open and the BMW International. He was T-6th at the Hero Indian Open. Unfortunately, he was a co-leader after the third round but shot 78 in the final round to finish 4 shots back of the winner Stephen Gallacher. He was 5th at the KLM Open, five shots back of winner Sergio Garcia. In his final start of the season, he missed the cut at the Portugal Masters.
2020 Notes: Played in 19 European Tour events making 11 cuts with three top-ten finishes. Was 49th in the Race to Dubai. He was T-8th at the ISPS Handa Wales Open. He got his first victory on the European Tour when he shot 63 in the final round of the Aphrodite Hills Cyprus Open and beat Kalle Samooja with a birdie on the first playoff hole. The following week was T-4th at the Cyprus Showdown, two shots back of winner Robert MacIntyre. He was T-36th in the season-ending DP World Tour Championship.
2021 Notes: Played in 21 DP World Tour events making 14 cuts with two top-ten finishes. He was 4th at the Cazoo Open, two shots back of the Nacho Elvira/Justin Harding playoff. He was T-3rd at the Cazoo Classic, two shots back of winner Calum Hill. He was T-31st in his last start of the year at the AVIV Dubai Championship.
2022 Notes: Played in 22 DP World Tour events making 17 cuts with three top-ten finishes. Was 21st in the Race to Dubai. He was T-7th at the Hero Open. The following week won for the second time at the Cazoo Open. He beat Connor Syme by four shots. He was 2nd at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, one shot back of winner Ryan Fox. He finished T-23rd in the season-ending DP World Tour Championship. At the Soudal Open, he hurt his wrist, and the injury was nagging all year.
2023 Notes: He was 4th at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic, four shots back of winner Rory McIlroy. He finished T-9th at the Italian Open. Since then has missed seven straight cuts going into the Open Championship.
