Gribble started playing golf at 3 and credits his father for introducing him to the sport. He says his most memorable golf experience is playing a round of golf with his father, grandfather and President George W. Bush.
Before committing to play golf at the University of Texas, Gribble had a successful junior golf career as a 2006 AJGA Second-Team All-American, 2007 AJGA First-Team All-American and winner of the 2007 Western Junior Championship. He represented the USA Team in the 2008 Junior World Team Championships, was a three-time Texas UIL Class 4A Regional Champion, two-time individual champion in 2008 and 2009, and was one of five inaugural recipients of the Byron Nelson International Junior Golf Award.
As a freshman at Texas Gribble ranked second on the team with a 72.03 stroke average in 13 events, registered top-three finishes in his first three collegiate events and tied for 19th at the Big 12 Championship and 64th at the NCAA Division 1 Championship. He won Big 12 Conference Newcomer of the Year and was named a Golfweek Second-Team All-American and PING Third-Team All-American. Gribble was also part of the 2012 NCAA Championship team at Texas where he posted a team-best 3-0 record in match play, tied for third his senior year at the Big 12 Championship and 10th at the NCAA Regional Tournament.
After turning pro in 2013, he made his professional debut at the FedEx St. Jude Classic through a sponsor exemption. Playing mostly in events on the Adams Pro Tour, his best finish in 2013 was when he T-2nd at the OK Kids Korral Championship. He also had a seventh-place finish in the Southwest Kansas Pro-Am. Most recently, Gribble participated in the Gateway Buick GMC Classic where he tied for ninth.
2014 Notes: Played in nine tournaments on PGA Tour Latinoamerica, making six cuts. His best finish was a T-17th at the Arturo Calle Colombian Open. He earned $7,806 and finished 90th on that tour's money list. In June, he qualified for the U.S. Open. He posted three consecutive 72s and a closing 69 to finish T-21st at Pinehurst. He picked up a check for $98,598, which is more money than his career winnings (outside of Open) on the PGA Tour, Web.Com Tour and PGA Tour Latinoamerica tour coming into this week. At the end of the year, he got to the final stage of Web.Com Tour Qualifying School and finished T-8th. He shot a final round 65 to improve 20 spots and get his Web.Com Tour card for 2015.
2015 Web.com Summary: Tournaments Entered - 24; In Money - 16; Top-10 Finishes - 5; Scoring Average - 70.01 (Rank T-30th); Money - $160,035 (Rank 27th); Finals Money - $16,281 (63rd); Priority Rank (77th); Best Finish - T-3rd Albertsons Boise Open. Was 30th in earnings heading to the Regular Season finale in Portland, after a missed cut in Knoxville. A final-round 65 at the WinCo Foods Portland Open that included four birdies and no bogeys over his last eight holes came within a razor-thin margin of securing the final available PGA Tour card. Was nudged to 27th, a mere $1,067 out of the 25th spot. In the Web.com Tour Finals, the Portland form did not carry over. Made the cut in three of the four events, posting a T-21st and pair of T-52nds.
2016 Web.com Summary: Tournaments Entered - 24; In Money - 9; Top-10 Finishes - 2; Scoring Average - 70.40 (Rank T-75th); Money - $89,326 (Rank 53rd); Finals Money - $35,125 (24th); Priority Rank (40th); Best Finish - T-2nd United Leasing & Finance. Finished 40th on the 2016 Web.com Tour priority list, securing his 2016-17 PGA Tour card following six top-25s in 24 starts on the Web.com Tour.
2017 Notes: Played in 28 PGA Tour events making 11 cuts with two Top-ten finishes. In his first start as a rookie on the PGA Tour and just seventh overall, finished T-8th at the Safeway Open. In his next start, overcame a 1-over 73 in the first round of the Sanderson Farms Championship with a 9-under 63 in round two. Put an exclamation point on the week with a bogey-free, 7-under 65 in the final round to win by four shots over Greg Owen and Luke List at 20-under 268. With the win, became the 4th player in the previous six years to make the Sanderson Farms Championship his first PGA Tour win and third consecutive, joining Nick Taylor in 2014 and Peter Malnati in 2015. En route to claiming a share of the first-round lead of The Honda Classic at 6-under 64, became the first player in tournament history to hit all 18 greens in regulation at PGA National. Finished in 70th after struggling the rest of the way with rounds of 76-71-80. After finishing T-14th at the SBS Tournament of Champions he played in 22 events and didn't finish higher than 30th as he only made 6 cuts in those 22 events. The good news was one of 12 rookies to advance to the FedExCup Playoffs. Finished the season 87th in the FedExCup standings.
2018 Notes: Played in 25 PGA tour events making 10 cuts. Best finish was T-30th at the FedEx St. Jude Classic and Players Championship. Finished 182nd in the FedExCup race.
2019 Notes: Best finish T-31st at the Wells Fargo Championship. So going into the U.S. Open in his last 65 PGA Tour starts going back to the 2017 Sentry Tournament of Champions has not been inside the top-30 in any event.
