ELIGIBILITY: Fully exempt into the 146th Open Championship by being one of the first 30 in the Race to Dubai Rankings for 2016. (5)

David enjoyed a successful amateur career, but exceeded even his own expectations in his first full season on the Challenge Tour in 2008, claiming two titles and graduating to the European Tour as the Order of Merit winner.
His breakthrough came at the Telenet Trophy, where he birdied three of the last four holes to take a one-shot victory. Buoyed by the win, he effectively clinched his main tour card for 2009 with his second victory of the season at the AGF-Allianz EurOpen de Lyon two weeks later ? a final-day 65 giving him the title by one shot.
David also sampled his first taste of playing in a major championship, qualifying for the 137th Open Championship at Royal Birkdale. He comfortably retained his card in his rookie season on the European Tour, missing only six cuts out of 26 tournaments to finish 76th in the Race to Dubai. His best performance was second at the Maybank Malaysian Open.
The Englishman recorded his maiden European Tour victory at the BMW International Open in Germany in 2010, finishing 18 under par for a one-shot victory. Three more top tens, including second at the Italian Open, helped him to 32nd in the Race to Dubai standings with earnings of just under ?900,000.
David was back in the winner's circle in March 2011, winning the Trophee Hassan II in Morocco via a play-off. He enjoyed three more top tens and made a total of 21 cuts, finishing 43rd in the Race Dubai with earnings of more than ?700,000. He was also part of the successful GB&I team which retained the Seve Vivendi Trophy in September 2011.
The keen Manchester United supporter showed signs of returning to his best form in 2013, finishing in the money 20 times out of a possible 26 and securing his place at the season-ending DP World Tour Championship in Dubai.
David's ascent continued in early 2014, recording three successive top-ten finishes at the Joburg Open, Africa Open and Trophée Hassan II respectively. The highlight of Dave?s season was victory in the M2M Russian Open.
After a gentle start to 2015 Dave burst back on to the winner?s podium with victory in the Made In Denmark tournament, clinching a two shot victory and jumping up into the top 60 of the Race to Dubai.
Although not recording a win in 2016 David finished in a career best 29th spot on the Race To Dubai earning over 1.2 million points. His excellent season saw him 15th or better 8 times, with his best performances being 2nd in the Turkish Airlines Open, 4th in the KLM Open and 5th in the Italian Open.
2017 Notes: 7th at The Rocco Forte Open, was T-2nd one shot back of Dylan Frittelli at the Lyoness Open.
