Elizabeth Szokol

At age 14, Elizabeth Szokol was a competitive tennis player. Szokol lost some of the enjoyment she got out of tennis and decided to take up golf after several knee surgeries. She picked up the game quickly, but in her junior year of high school, she had another setback, which was more knee surgery. It took her a year to rehab, and when she did, she won the 2012 Illinois Women's Amateur. Szokol went to Northwestern, and she started to play well. The Winnetka, Ill., native spent two years at Northwestern University before transferring to the University of Virginia.
Szokol continued playing competitively in college, first at Northwestern and later at Virginia, where she was named an honorable mention All-American as a senior in 2016 by the Women's Golf Coaches Association. While racking up NCAA honors, she realized she might have an opportunity to make a living as a golfer. In 2017, less than a year after leaving Virginia, she turned pro and joined the Symetra Tour. The first few weeks were bumpy as she missed the cut in four of her first six starts. But things improved, and she finished T-2nd at the Four Winds Invitational. She had a few more good finishes, 5th at the Danielle Downey Credit Union Classic, a T-6th at the Garden City Charity Classic, and then another 5th-place finish at the Guardian Championship, followed by a T-3rd at the IOA Golf Classic. So in 19 events in her first year, she made 12 cuts and finished 16th on the money list with $445,058.
2018 Notes. Played in 20 Symetra Tour events, making 15 cuts with seven top-ten finishes. She collected her first win at the IOA Invitational and finished the year with $76,612, placing her 4th on the money list. That was good enough for her to earn membership for the 2019 season.
2019 Notes: In her first year on the LPGA Tour, she played in 20 events, making 10 cuts with one top-ten finish. She was 108th on the money list with $105,814 in earnings, and she finished 102nd on the CME points list. Her best finish was T-6th at the Aberdeen Asset Management Ladies Scottish Open.
2020 Notes Played in 14 LPGA Tour events, making seven cuts. Finished 83rd on the money list with $110,873 in earnings. Was 78th on the CME points list. Her best finish was 11th at the Pelican Womens Championship.
2021 Notes: Played in 23 LPGA Tour events, making 13 cuts with three top-ten finishes. She was 39th on the money list with $530,570 in earnings and was 44th in CME points. Was T-7th at the Pure Silk Championship and then had her best finish on the LPGA Tour. She finished T-2nd in the rain-shortened Marathon Classic. With rounds of 67-66-67 was six shots back of the winner, Nasa Hataoka. Was 3rd at the Cognizant Founders Cup and finished the season with a T-51st finish at the CME Group Tour Championship.
2022 Notes: Played in 13 LPGA Tour events, making 6 cuts with one top-ten finish. She was 108th on the money list with $131,874 in earnings and was 105th in CME points. Best finish, T-4th at the Dow Great Lakes Bay Invitational. Best individual start, T-20th at the Kroger Queen City Championship.
2023 Notes: Played in 20 LPGA Tour events, making 13 cuts with three top-ten finishes. She was 55th on the money list with $536,094 in earnings and was 52nd in CME points. She teamed with Cheyenne Knight to win the Dow Great Lakes Bay Invitational for her first LPGA victory. They called themselves the Elizabethan Knights, and shot 23-under 257 to beat Kelly Tan and Matilda Castren by one shot. Her best individual finish was T-8th at the HSBC Women's Champions.
2024 Notes: Played in 22 LPGA Tour events, making 12 cuts. She was 107th on the money list with $165,358 in earnings and was 118th in CME points. Best finish, T-30th at the Hilton Tournament of Champions.
2025 Notes: Best finish T-10th at the Dow Championship with partner Cheyenne Knight. Best individual finish, T-20th ShopRite LPGA Classic.
