George Coetzee

Coetzee started golf at age 10 and won the very first tournament he ever entered. Although his father wanted him to be a tennis player, he credits his parents as the biggest influence on his career. He also idolized Ernie Els as a youngster.
He finished fourth and eighth at the Callaway Junior World Championship in San Diego where he attended the University of San Diego for a semester. He turned pro in 2007 and joined the Sunshine Tour that same year, winning the Vodacom Origins of Golf Tour at Selborne. He won two more Vodacom Origins of Golf Tour titles in South Africa in 2008.
He earned his European Tour card at the 2009 Qualifying School but lost it in 2010. He regained it at the 2010 Qualifying School and did not make the same mistake in 2011, recording seven top-10s to finish 26th in The Race to Dubai. He made it into a five-man playoff in the 2011 Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles, but despite staying in it for four holes, fell to Thomas Bjorn at the fifth. He finished 21st at The 2012 Race to Dubai, missing just three cuts in 25 events.
2013 Notes: He had a run in the European desert swing, finishing T-9th in Abu Dhabi and T-2nd in Qatar, where he just missed a playoff when Chris Wood won the event with a 14-foot eagle putt on the 72nd hole. Two weeks later, he finished T-3rd in the Joburg Open, which was his last top-ten finish for the year. He finished 54th in the Race to Dubai.
2014 Notes: He finished T-4th in Abu Dhabi and then T-5th at Qatar. He then won the Joburg Open which got him into the top-64 to play in the WGC-Accenture Match Play, where he finished T-9. In the European Tour's Volvo Match Play Championship, he finished 4th. He finished the year 23rd at the Race to Dubai.
2015 Notes: Played in 19 events on the European Tour, he made 12 cuts and had 4 top-10s. He started strong with wins at the Tshwane Open and AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open. Also had a pair of T-3rds at Investec Cup (Sunshine Tour) and Trophee Hassan II. The last top-10 of the year was T-7th at the PGA Championship. Was 36th in the Race to Dubai. His season ended in September when he broke his ankle while surfing in Bali. The injury ended his chance of making his first International Presidents Cup team. On the South African tour won the order of merit.
2016 Notes: Was healed and played on the South African swing in December of 2015. Was able to win the Dimension Data Pro-am. On the European Tour played in 25 events and made 17 cuts. Had two top-tens, best finish 5th Turkish Airlines Open. Was 48th in the Race to Dubai as he won euro740,737.
2017 Notes: Played in 27 European Tour events making 18 cuts with 8 top-ten finishes. His best finish was T-3rd at the KLM Open and T-4th at the Nordea Masters. He finished 53rd in the Race to Dubai. On the Sunshine Tour, he won their order of merit in six events played.
2018 Notes: Played in 23 European Tour events making 14 cuts with four top-ten finishes. Was 69th in the Race to Dubai. Returned to the winner's table with a victory at the Tshwane Open, which is both on the European Tour and Sunshine Tour. Also was 4th at the Open de Espana.
2019 Notes: Played in 29 European Tour events making 19 cuts with four top-ten finishes. Was 60th in the Race to Dubai. Was T-2nd at the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters, he was two shots back of winner Justin Harding. Also T-6th at the Hero Indian Open and T-9th at the Aberdeen Standard Investments Scottish Open. At the French Open made a triple-bogey seven on the 15th hole in the final round and finished 3rd, two shots back of the winner Nicolas Colsaerts.
2020 Notes: Played in 15 Europan Tour events making 11 cuts with five top-ten finishes. Did win the Portugal Masters, shot 66-66 over the weekend to beat Lauris Canter by two shots. Also 2nd at the Dimension Data Pro-Am a shot back of winner Christiaan Bezuienhout. On the Sunshine Tour won the Titleist Championship by four shots over Tristen Strydom. Played in the DP World Tour Championship, Dubai finsihing T-29th.
