George Coetzee

Coetzee started golf at age 10 and won the very first tournament he ever entered. Although his father wanted him to be a tennis player, he credits his parents as the biggest influence on his career. He also idolized Ernie Els as a youngster.
He finished fourth and eighth at the Callaway Junior World Championship in San Diego where he attended the University of San Diego for a semester. He turned pro in 2007 and joined the Sunshine Tour that same year, winning the Vodacom Origins of Golf Tour at Selborne. He won two more Vodacom Origins of Golf Tour titles in South Africa in 2008.
He earned his European Tour card at the 2009 Qualifying School but lost it in 2010. He regained it at the 2010 Qualifying School and did not make the same mistake in 2011, recording seven top-10s to finish 26th in The Race to Dubai. He made it into a five-man playoff in the 2011 Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles, but despite staying in it for four holes, fell to Thomas Bjorn at the fifth. He finished 21st at The 2012 Race to Dubai, missing just three cuts in 25 events.
2013 Notes: He had a run in the European desert swing, finishing T-9th in Abu Dhabi and T-2nd in Qatar, where he just missed a playoff when Chris Wood won the event with a 14-foot eagle putt on the 72nd hole. Two weeks later, he finished T-3rd in the Joburg Open, which was his last top-ten finish for the year. He finished 54th in the Race to Dubai.
2014 Notes: He finished T-4th in Abu Dhabi and then T-5th at Qatar. He then won the Joburg Open which got him into the top-64 to play in the WGC-Accenture Match Play, where he finished T-9. In the European Tour's Volvo Match Play Championship, he finished 4th. He finished the year 23rd at the Race to Dubai.
2015 Notes: Played in 19 events on the European Tour, he made 12 cuts and had 4 top-10s. He started strong with wins at the Tshwane Open and AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open. His season ended in September when he broke his ankle while surfing in Bali. The injury ended his chance of making his first International Presidents Cup team. On the South African tour won the order of merit.
2016 Notes: Was healed and played on the South African swing in December of 2015. Was able to win the Dimension Data Pro-am. On the European Tour played in 25 events and made 17 cuts. Had two top-tens, best finish 5th Turkish Airlines Open. Was 48th in the Race to Dubai as he won euro740,737.
