George McNeill

Got his start in golf at age 3 when his grandfather gave him a set of clubs. One of five siblings. Lists biggest thrill in golf as qualifying for two U.S. Opens (2002 and 2006). Member of the Golden Bear Tour in 2004. All-ACC and All-American selection at Florida State (1997-98) and turned professional in 1998. Lists heroes as Cal Ripken Jr., Mike Schmidt and Bo Jackson. He was an all-conference baseball selection as a high school sophomore.
McNeill had some success on various minitours, winning $10,000 at the 2002 Beck's Open at Fort Myers Country Club and $25,000 at the Waterloo Open in Iowa in 2001.
In his fifth try at PGA Tour Q-School at the end of 2002, made it through all three stages finishing T82nd and getting access to the Web.Com Tour.
2003 Web.Com Tour Summary: Tournaments entered - 24; Rounds Played - 63; in money - 8; top -10 Finishes - 1; Scoring Average - 71.95 (Rank 123rd); money $31,153 Rank (115th); Best finish: T7th Permian Basin Charity Golf Classic.
After not getting through PGA Tour Q-School at the end of 2003, took a club professional job at Shadow Wood Country Club in Bonita Springs and then in 2006 as a assistant professional at The Forest Country Club in Fort Myers. In those three years, missed the cut in the Web.Com First Tee Arkansas Classic in 2004 and then missed the cut at the 2006 U.S. Open. On the Web.com Tour in 2006, finished T53rd Price Cutter Charity Championship and missed the cut at the Oregon Classic.
Made a decision to try for a ninth time Q-School at the end of 2006 and made it through all three stages for the second time. Not only was one of eight players to negotiate all three stages but was the medalist by five shots (23 under total), the largest margin of victory since Scott Verplank topped Blaine McCallister by six in 1997.
After winning PGA Tour Qualifying medalist honors in 2006, earned first PGA Tour win at the Frys.com Open, making him and Brandt Snedeker only two rookies to win on Tour in 2007.
2008 Notes: Nine top-25 finishes was 76th on the money list in his sophomore season.
2009 Notes: After a slow start to his year, ended his year finishing runner-up in two of his last three starts at Justin Timberlake and Disney finishing 57th on the money list with $1.4 million in earnings.
2010 Notes: In 28 events had one top-ten, T-5th Northern Trust Open. Ended the year 138th on the money list, then withdrew from Q-School.
2011 Notes: With limited status playing as a past winner and in the 125 to 150th category, got a 5th place finish in Puerto Rico and then T-6th at Zurich. T-2nd at the Viking Classic and a 2nd at the Wyndham Championship help him finish year 59th on the money list and 68th in the FedEx Cup race.
2012 Notes: Got back into the winners circle at the Puerto Rico Open, beating Ryo Ishikawa by two shots. It was his only top-ten in 25 starts.
2013 Notes: In 21 starts only had two top-25s, with a best finish of T-16th at the Wells Fargo Championship. Finished the year 102nd in the FedEx Cup race and 136th on the money race.
2014 Notes: Had four top-10 finishes in 16 made cuts, including a runner-up finish at The Greenbrier Classic. Was able to make it for a seventh time into the FedExCup Playoffs in which he made it to the BMW Championship, when he placed 46th in the final FedExCup standings and was 43rd on the money list. Finished T-7th at the season-opening Frys.com Open, four shots behind champion Jimmy Walker. Birdied five of his last six holes in the third round en route to a career-low and course record, 9-under 62. Finished T-6th at the Northern Trust Open, his third top-10 finish of the year was a 7th place finish in his home state of Florida at the Valspar Championship. Turned in the round of the week and his career at The Greenbrier Classic, with a final-round, 9-under 61 to finish second to Angel Cabrera by two shots. It topped his previous-low round on the PGA Tour of 62 during the third round of Frys.com Open. Runner-up finish at Greenbrier was at the time his 7th of his career and first since the 2011 Wyndham Championship.
2015 Notes: Got his first and only top-10 of the year at the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial, T-5th.
