Jarmo Sandelin

Sandelin was born in Imatra, Finland but grew up in Sweden, and is now a Swedish citizen. First became interested in golf at age 10 when he started playing mini-golf in the basement of a McDonald's burger bar in Stockholm in 1977.
Although born in Finland, he started playing his golf in Stockholm, Sweden. He turned professional in 1987 and despite several visits to qualifying school, did not win a place on the European Tour until 1995. In 1994, played in 21 European Challenge Tour events, winning the Challenge Novotel. He finished 9th on the Order of Merit which gave him a berth on the European tour in 1995.
He won the 1995 Turespana Open De Canaria during his debut season as he finished in 21st place on the Order of Merit and was named the Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of the Year.
In 1996, Sandelin played on the United States-based PGA Tour but made just one cut from 14 tournament starts during the season. He returned to Europe towards the end of the year with immediate success, winning the Madeira Island Open. He has won a total of five tournaments on the European Tour and his best season was 1999 when he won the Spanish and German Opens and finished 9th on the Order of Merit. He also made his only Ryder Cup appearance that year, but was only selected to play in the singles and lost his match.
Sandelin, in 2005, returned to qualifying school. Having employed a coach for the first time in his career, he regained his European Tour card immediately. He has maintained his playing status since, although sometimes by the narrowest of margins. In 2007 he edged out Lee Slattery for the last automatic card for 2008 by just shooting 77.
Hosted the second PAF (Play Among Friends) Charity Golf Day at Stockholms Golfklubb in July 2009 and raised euro110,000, the same total he achieved for his initial venture at Arlanda Golf Club two years earlier. All proceeds went to good causes identified by the Jarmo Foundation, which he started as a means of putting something back into the game. Always colorfully dressed in his designer golf shoes and belts.
He is a Swedish citizen living in Monaco. In his European Tour career between 1992 and 2011 played in 456 events making the cut 262 times. Has been in the top ten 43 times and earned euros4,724,939.
2017 Staysure Seniors Tour Summary: Tournaments entered - 13; top-10 finishes - 7; Euro97,711 (ranked 17th); Best finish, T-3rd at the Sharjah Senior Golf Masters. Was also T-4th at the Farmfoods European Senior Masters.
2018 Notes: Playing on the European Staysure Tour made 17 starts with five top-ten finishes. Was T-2nd at the Swiss Seniors Open, T-6th at the Farmfoods European Senior Masters. Finished 20th on the Staysure Order of Merit with euro125,860 in earnings.
2019 Notes: Played in 16 events on the European Legends Tour with five top-ten finishes. Was 12th on the Order of Merit with earnings of euro132,615. Missed the cut at the Jordan Mixed Open and the Senior PGA Championship, was T-9th at the Senior Italian Open and T-4th at the Farmfoods European Legends. He ended his year in great fashion, was T-7th at the Murhof Legends â?? Austrian Senior Open. Was T-3rd at the Farmfoods European Senior Masters, two shots back of winner Thomas Levet. At the last event of the year MCB Tour Championship - Mauritius shot 65 in the final round to win by three shots over James Kingston.
