Brother of PGA Tour member Jim Gallagher Jr. and LPGA member Jackie Gallagher-Smith. Seven-year player on the Nike Tour in '97 finished 41st with earnings of $52,519. Played in 25 Nike Tour events, best finish was T-5 in the Boise Open. Gallagher joined the PGA Tour in 1996, playing in 31 events, making the cut in 11 of them. He had four top-25 finishes and two inside the top 10, consisting of two T-10s at Freeport-McDermott Classic and MasterCard Colonial, making $114,001 on the year. He only played in two events in 1997, but made his return in 1998, playing 29 events. He made the cut in 18 of them, earning $259,769 along the way. He notched four more top 25s and two top 10s. He was T-6th at the Nissan Open and T-8 at the Buick Open. He made 12 cuts in 34 tries in the 1999 season. He finished once more in the top 10 and three in the top 25. He was T-9 in the Southern Farm Bureau Classic. Despite missing 21 cuts, Gallagher made $189,847 in 1999. The next two years, however, Gallagher cut down on his PGA Tour events. He played in only four events in 2000, but still made the cut in three of them and earned $40,855. He played seven times in 2001 and made three cuts. He also made just three cuts in 15 events in 2002. Gallagher made five cuts in 10 events in 2003, including a top-10 finish at the Greater Milwaukee Open, the best finish of his career on the Tour, T-5. His earnings were back up to $163,900 in 2003. He finished his PGA Tour career with 134 starts, 56 made cuts, six top 10s, and 12 top-25 finishes, earning $814,443.
A lot of Gallagher's professional career was spent on the Web.com Tour. He played 30 times in 1990 and 1991, each, making the cut 17 and 16 times, respectively. He won in 1991 at the Ben Hogan Cleveland Open, banking $25,000 on the weekend. He was the runner-up at the Ben Hogan New England Classic, earning $11,500. He was a runner-up in 1992, at the Ben Hogan Panama Beach Classic, good for $14,375. His best season came in 2000 when he made 14 cuts in 24 tries. He was inside the top 25 nine times and had six top 10s. He won for the second time on the Web.com Tour, at the Buy.com South Carolina Classic. The triumph was worth $72,000, and he made $193,811 on the season. He finished 2000 at 12th on the money list. He eclipsed $100,000 in a season once more in 2009. He made 14 cuts in 25 tries, had four top 25s, two top 10s, including a runner-up at The Rex Hospital Open, earning $56,700 in the process. He earned $121,573 in 2009, 55th on the money list. He notched one more top-10 finish in 2010, a T-8 at the Chitimacha Louisiana Open, earning $15,950. He played in 297 events on the Web.com Tour, won twice, had four runner-up finishes, and made 158 cuts, earning $716,363.
Has made three appearances on the PGA Tour Champions, one in 2015 and twice in 2016. He made the cut in all of them, in 2015 Tuscon Conquistadores Classic, finishing T-59, and T-58 in the same event in 2016 and T-18th in the 2016 U.S. Senior Open Championship. At the end of 2016 went to PGA Tour Champions Q-School and finished T-24th.
Gallagher teaches at the Legacy Golf Course in Henderson, Nev.
Has played in just three tournaments since joining the Southwest section of the PGA in 2015. He finished T-4th at the Las Vegas Classic in 2016, T-3rd at the 2015 Payson Invitational and T-8th at the 2015 Sedona Open.
In 2017 played in the U.S. Senior Open again finishing T-40th. He also went to PGA Tour Champions Q-School, finishing T-20th. In 2018 Played in the U.S. Senior Open and missed the cut. Again went through Q-school, was 2nd in the 1st stage, but was T-57th in the final stage.
