Jeff Sluman

He started playing golf with his family at the young age of 4. He turned professional after his senior year at Florida State when he won the Metro Conference title. He earned his Tour card in the fall of 1982 but finished 171st on the money list in 1983 and was forced to return to Q-School. He regained his Tour card in 1984 and won the 1985 Tallahassee Open as part of the Tournament Players Series. He finished in the top 100 of the money list between 1985 and 2006. In 1987, he lost the Tournament Players Championship in a three-hole playoff with Sandy Lyle and finished the year winning $335,590 (ranked 27th). In 1988, he shot a final-round 65 to win the PGA Championship by three shots over Paul Azinger, propelling him to his fourth-best season to date, winning $503,321 (ranked 18th). Before winning the 1998 Tucson Classic, he had won more money than anybody else in the 1990s without a win. He has been a Chicago Bulls season ticket holder since 1996 and loves Formula 1 auto racing. Big fan of the Florida State Seminoles, Chicago Bears, and Chicago Cubs. Serious wine collector owns about 2,000 bottles, some dating back to 1957. Co-owner with Dudley Hart of Lakeshore Golf Club in Rochester, N.Y., a course he played regularly growing up. A good friend of 1986 Indianapolis 500 winner Bobby Rahal.
Played full-time on the PGA Tour between 1983 and 2007 and in 700 events played, won six times, was runner-up 15 times, finished third 10 times, and finished in the top 10 105 times. Had accumulated earnings of $18.2 million.
In 2011, they reclaimed a spot among the top 10 money-winners after a year's absence, finishing sixth on the money list for the second time in the last three seasons. Along with Rod Spittle, he played in all 24 official events. He won his fourth career title overall and third in the last four years in early July at Pebble Beach's Nature Valley First Tee Open. The victory was his third in the last four years on the Monterey Peninsula.
2012 Notes: For the second consecutive year, he played in every event and was among the top 10 in a third of his 24 appearances, highlighted by two third-place efforts in three tournaments during the spring. Their best finish was T-3rd at the Mississippi Gulf Resort Classic. Then the following month, he and teammate Brad Faxon earned a T-3rd finish at the Liberty Mutual Insurance Legends of Golf in Savannah.
2013 Notes: Won his fifth career PGA Tour Champions title when he and teammate Brad Faxon were one-stroke victors over the teams of Fred Funk-Mike Goodes and Kenny Perry-Gene Sauers in the Liberty Mutual Insurance Legends of Golf in Savannah in April. With his $230,000 first-prize check, he surpassed the $25-million mark in career earnings in a PGA Tour event. For the third straight year, he played in every PGA Tour Champions event and was among the top 20 on the money list for the fifth consecutive season as he finished the year 16th on the money list.
2014 Notes: Missed just one event during the year, and it came late in the season in the AT&T Championship, ending a streak of PGA Tour Champions appearances at 102 consecutive dating back to when he skipped the 2010 Ensure Classic. He had a victory and two second-place finishes during the season, earning more than $1.2 million, the largest amount he's made in a season since 2011. He had a big month in June that extended into mid-July when he was among the top six in four straight events. He started to stretch with the highlight of his season when he could defend his title at the Big Cedar Lodge Legends of Golf, teaming with a new partner (Fred Funk) to prevail in a tight battle with Jay Haas-Peter Jacobsen. Later in the month, they finished second to Bernhard Langer in the Constellation Senior Players Championship, losing on the second hole of a playoff. He was T-5th in his next start in mid-July at the U.S. Senior Open at Oak Tree National in Oklahoma. He finished ninth on the money list for the year and seventh in Schwab Rankings.
2015 Notes: Fell short in his bid for a third consecutive title at the Bass Pro Shops Legends of Golf. He and teammate Tom Lehman finished T-5th at Big Cedar Lodge. A closing-round 5-under-par 67 led to a T-6th at the Tucson Conquistadores Classic. He was T-7th at the Senior PGA Championship and ended his year with his best finish, T-4th at the Charles Schwab Cup Championship. He finished outside the top-20 money-winners on the Champions Tour (was 22nd) for the first time but still managed to post top-10s in a third of his 24 starts.
2016 Notes: Played in 25 events with 3 top-three finishes. Was T-3rd at the Allianz Championship, Pacific Links Bear Mountain Championship, and the SAS Championship. They finished 22nd on the money list and 25th in the Schwab Ranking.
2017 Notes: Finished T-2nd at the Bass Pro Shops Legends of Golf with teammate Fred Funk. He was T-3rd at the Chubb Classic. In his 26 starts finished 31st on the money list and 32nd in Schwab Rankings.
2018 Notes: Played in 26 PGA Tour Champions events with two top-10 finishes. T-8th at the Mitsubishi Electric Classic and T-10th at the Dick's Sporting Goods Open. They went on to finish 45th in the Charles Schwab Cup.
2019 Notes: He played in 23 PGA Tour Champions events; he had one top-ten finish. He was 50th on the final Schwab Rankings. Their best finish was T-6th at the Mitsubishi Electric Classic, 3 shots back of winner Scott McCarron.
2020 & 2021 Notes: He played in 30 PGA Tour Champions events; he had five top-25 finishes. He was 65th on the final Schwab Rankings. The best finish was his last event of the season, T-11th at the Dominion Energy Clarity.
2022 Notes: Played in 18 PGA Tour Champions events. Finished 71st in the Schwab Rankings and 72nd on the money list with $170,607 in earnings. Best finish T-13th at the Cologuard Classic.
2023 Notes: Was T-19th at the Trophy Hassan II.
