Jim Ahern

Winner, 1999 PGA Senior Club Professional Player of the Year Award, with honor coming after having made a highly successful Champions Tour debut. Ahern earned more than $450,000 in 1999 while competing in just 16 events. Finished 41st on Champions Tour money list in 1999. . . Won 1999 AT&T Canada Senior Open Championship in a two-hole playoff with Hale Irwin. Sank downhill 30-foot birdie putt on the 18th green to force playoff and followed by making winning par putt on second extra hole. . . Was teaching professional from 1994-99 at Executive Golf in Phoenix, a corporate golf outing management firm in which he continues to serve as president. . . Competed on PGA Tour from 1973 to 1975, competing in 60 Tour events. Winner, 1973 Yuma Open, a satellite tour event. . . Competed in 1971 U.S. Amateur and finished in the top 20 at Wilmington (Del.) Country Club. . . Competed in 1972 U.S. Open and missed the cut. . . Best Tour finish was T-9 in the 1973 Quad Cities Open, which was won by left-hander Sam Adams, now a PGA Professional . . . Played at Oklahoma State University with fellow Champions Tour members Mark Hayes and Doug Tewell. . . Was assistant professional (May 1977 to August 1978) at Fargo (N.C.) Country Club before his PGA Tour stint. Returned to Fargo Country Club as assistant from 1980-81 and became head teaching professional (1981-87) at Des Moines Golf and Country Club, site of 1999 U.S. Senior Open where he finished tied for 18th.
