John Peterson

One of the most decorated players in the history of the LSU men's golf program. Crowned the 2011 NCAA individual champion. One of only three LSU Tigers to win the NCAA individual title in program history, joining Fred Haas, Jr. (1937) and Earl Stewart (1941). A three-time All-American and two-time All-SEC performer. Named a PING First-Team All-American and Golfweek Second-Team All-American following his national championship victory in 2011. Also chosen a Second-Team All-America selection in 2009 and an Honorable Mention All-America selection in 2010. Finished his collegiate career with a 72.58 scoring average in 49 tournament starts and 146 rounds played. His career scoring average ranks No. 2 among all LSU golfers since 1982. Wrapped up his career with two tournament victories, as well as 12 top-five finishes, 19 top-10 finishes and 27 top-20 finishes.
Won the 2011 Jones Cup. Graduated with a degree in sport administration with a concentration in sport leadership.
Made his first career start on the Web.com Tour, at the 2011 Nationwide Children's Hospital Invitational in Columbus, Ohio, where he earned a sponsor exemption based on his win at the NCAA Championship. Fired a 7-under 64 in the opening round to lead by one stroke. Maintained that lead after the second and third rounds. Was in a weekend battle for the lead with fellow amateur Harris English. Held a one-shot advantage over his playing partner, English, after 71 holes. His tee shot on the final hole wound up in a difficult lie in the rough and he was forced to lay up at the par-4. His putt for par missed, and set the stage for English to roll in a 10-foot birdie putt to win, Peterson finishing second. Right after that he turned pro, finished T23rd at his pro debut at the Web.com Tour's Children's Hospital Classic in Chattanooga.
Made his first start in a PGA Tour event at the 2012 AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am (T69). In June he qualified for the U.S. Open and surprised all finishing T4th just two shots back of winner Webb Simpson. With that he earned spots in the 2012 Masters and U.S. Open. He played in nine events on the PGA Tour in '12, making the cut six times and earned $327,091 which wasn't enough to get him a PGA Tour card, but he earned enough to gain conditional status on the Web.com Tour for 2013.
