Julian Suri

Father, Jagan, was the great-grandson of Buchi Babu Naidu, the father of South Indian cricket. Jagan moved from India to the United States when he was 17 and was a professional tennis player. Today he is in the business development of golf courses. Mother, Lorena, works as a graphic designer. The U.S. born Suri, who is half-Indian and half Mexican got his start playing tennis over golf. His father let him play both tennis and golf starting at age 5 and he picked golf. Suri played college golf at Duke University where he won three events and was an All-American in 2012.
In 2016 he played all three stages of the European Tour Qualifying School. He finished just one shot away from qualifying for the European Tour, to earn a place on the Challenge Tou. In May of 2017 was runner-up to Matt Wallace at the Open de Portugal.
Two weeks later won the D+D Real Czech Challenge, where his week's work included a third round 63, and by following that with T-3rd at the Swiss Challenge and then T-23rd at the European Tour's Lyoness Open in Austria followed by a T-11th in the Made in Denmark Challenge. In a span of six weeks, he went from being 1,142nd in the Official World Golf Rankings to 221st going into July. In his two Challenge Tour starts in July was T-72nd at the SSE Scottish Hydro Challenge and T-27th at the Prague Golf Challenge. Suri qualified for the 2017 Open Championship, his first major championship, through Final Qualifying, went on and missed the cut. In August 2017 Suri had his first European Tour win, the Made in Denmark tournament. Despite only playing a partial season on the European Tour, Suri performed well enough to qualify for the DP World Tour Championship, where he finished tied for 8th So in 2017 he played a total of 16 European Tour events and finished 52nd in the Race To Dubai standings.
2018 Notes: Played in 16 European Tour events making 13 cuts with three top-tens. Opened the season with a T-2nd at the UBS Hong Kong Open, he was a shot back of winner Wade Ormsby. Was also runner-up at the French Open, a shot back of winner Alex Noren which got him into the British Open where he finished T-28th. On the PGA Tour was T-8th at the Houston Open after Monday qualifying. It was his first top-ten on the PGA Tour. He played in the Web.Com Tour playoffs but his best finish in the four tournaments was T-16th in the DAP Championship. In the fall on the European Tour was T-5th, five shots back of winner Eddie Pepperell. He ended the year 35th in the Race to Dubai. After the Turkish Airlines Open, he took some time off.
2019 Notes: On January 15th Suri underwent surgery in Philadelphia to repair a sports hernia. The injury was in the lower abdominal area on his right side. After three weeks of rest, he started playing again and two months after the surgery rejoined the European Tour in Malaysia at the Maybank Championship finishing T-20th. The next week played in the Hero Indian Open he shot 67-67-71 and co-led after the first round, led after the second and co-led after the third round. But he shot a 77 in the final round and dropped to T-4th, 3 shots back of winner Stephen Gallacher. At the Trophee Hassan II was around the lead each day and finished T-2nd two shots back of winner Jorge Campillo.
