Ken Green

He started to play golf at age 12 when his family moved to Honduras, where his father was the principal at the American School. Three years later the family moved back to Connecticut where he continued playing golf and caddying whenever possible. After high school, Green moved to Florida and attended Palm Beach Community College, where his game finally blossomed. He turned professional in 1979, but failed to earn his card on his first two tries. He finally succeeded in the Fall of 1981, but lost his card when he won only $11,899 in 1982 and returned to the Q-school. He regained his playing privileges and broke through into the top 125 in 1983 by winning $40,263, but Green slumped in 1984 to only $20,160 and again had to re-qualify at the Q-School. He won his card back and 1985 proved to be a pivotal year for him, as he won the Buick Open by four strokes. He showed that it wasn't a fluke, as he came back in 1986 and won the inaugural, International tournament. Even though he didn't win in 1987, he finished 36th on the money list. Green bounced back in 1988 to win the Canadian Open and the Greater Milwaukee Open and finished 2nd, three times. He had a incredible year, winning $779,181 and placing fourth on the money list. In 1989 Green won for the fifth time on Tour, when he beat John Huston by two, to win the Kmart Greater Greensboro Open. Member of 1989 Ryder Cup team.
In June 2009, season was cut short by a tragic RV accident in Mississippi that killed his girlfriend, his brother and his dog while returning from the Triton Financial Classic in Austin, Texas. Accident resulted in Green having his lower right leg amputated. Went through extensive rehabilitation and was fitted for a prosthetic limb. Chosen as the Champion Tour's Comeback Player of the Year in 2010, making an inspirational return to competition 10 months after his accident, teaming with Mike Reid to finish T-26th in the Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf.
Returned to the Champions Tour for the first time since July 2010 (Dick's Sporting Goods Open) when he teamed with good friend Mark Calcavecchia at the Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf.
