Tway attended Edmond North High School, where he was named The Oklahoman's All-City Player of the Year in 2006 and '07. He was a first-team American Junior Golf Association All-American in 2006 and was a second-team pick in 2005. He won the Oklahoma Class 6A individual title in 2006 and 2007. Tway won the 2005 U.S. Junior Amateur and advanced to the semifinals the following year.
