Maja Stark

Maja grew up in Abbekas in Sweden, and began playing golf when she went along with her parents to their local golf course. Stark grew up in Abbekas, Skane County, and joined the Swedish National Team in 2016. She represented her country at the European Girls' Team Championship, where Sweden won the silver in 2016 and the gold in 2017. She was then part of the Swedish teams that won the European Ladies Team Championship in 2018, 2019, and 2020, teamed with Frida Kinhult, Sara Kjellker, Ingrid Lindblad, Linn Grant, and Beatrice Wallin. She was also a member of the 2017 European Junior Solheim Cup team.
In August 2019, Stark made two starts in the LET Access Series and was runner-up at the Anna Nordqvist Vasteras Open and the Swedish PGA Championship.
Stark was a freshman at Oklahoma State University in 2019-20, where she won the Hurricane Invitational in just her second career start. She won the 2020 Arnold Palmer Cup at Bay Hill Club and Lodge, Bay Hill, Florida, with the International team. In her sophomore year, Stark joined Pernilla Lindberg (2008) as Big 12 Conference Player of the Year and was the Big 12's lone WGCA First Team All-American. She won two individual titles and ended the season ranked No. 4 by GolfStat with a 49-2 record in head-to-head competition against top-100 players in the country. She recorded a stroke average of 70.48, which destroyed the previous school record (71.14) set by Caroline Hedwall in 2010.
Stark rose to 6th place in the World Amateur Golf Ranking in July 2020. She received an exemption for the 2020 U.S. Women's Open, her first major championship, where she finished T-13th.
2021 Notes: At the 2021 U.S. Women's Open, she was T-9th after the third round and finished T-16th after a final round of 74. Stark turned professional in August 2021, intending to play on the Swedish Golf Tour and by invitation on the Ladies European Tour, aiming to qualify for the LPGA Tour through qualifying school. She won her first professional title, the PGA Championship by Trelleborgs Kommun on the LET Access Series, in her second career start the same month. In September, Stark claimed her first LET title at the Creekhouse Ladies Open, finishing four shots ahead of fellow Swede Linn Grant, in the process earning membership of the LET. Less than a month later, she won her second LET title at the Estrella Damm Ladies Open by two shots over Pia Babnik. She was T-7th at the Aramco Team Series-New York and ended her season 2nd at the Andalucia Open De Espana, four shots back of winner Carlota Ciganda. Despite a shortened season, only playing in six LET events, she was 6th on the Race to Costa Del Sol and 12th on the money race with euro164,881 in earnings.
2022 Notes: Played in 19 LET events, making 14 cuts with 12 top-ten finishes. She was 2nd in the Race to Costa Del Sol and was 4th on the money list with earnings of euro512,313. Played in 12 LPGA Tour events, making 7 cuts with three top-ten finishes. She was 52nd in the CME standings and 70th on the money list, earning $384,627. She was 2nd at the Asian Mixed Stableford, two points back of winner Sihwan Kim; the next week, she was 2nd again at the Australian Women's Classic, a shot back of winner Meghan MacLaren. A week after that won the Women's NSW Open by five shots over Johanna Gustavsson. Was T-7th at the Jabra Ladies Open, and a week later shot a final round 64 to finish T-3rd at the Mithra Belgian Ladies Open, three shots back of winner Linn Grant. Stark won again at the Amundi German Masters by a shot over Leonie Harm and Jessica Karlsson. A week later, I was T-5th at the Estrella Damm Ladies Open, five shots back of the winner Carlota Ciganda. She won the ISPS Handa World Invitational, which was official on the LET and LPGA tours, and she joined the LPGA Tour after the victory. Stark shot a final round 63 to win by five shots over Allisen Corpuz. Shot a final round 65 to finish T-3rd at the Skafto Open, two shots back of winner Linn Grant. She ended her LET season with a T-5th finish at the Aramco Team Series - New York and T-7th at the Andalucia Open De Espana. On the LPGA Tour was 8th at the Amazingcre Portland Classic and T-10th at the Pelican Women's Championship.
2023 Notes: Played in 22 LPGA Tour events, making 17 cuts with six top-ten finishes. She was 30th in the CME standings and 34th on the money list with earnings of $875,314. She was T-2nd in the Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions, finishing four shots back of the winner, Brooke M. Henderson. She won the Lalla Meryem Cup on the LET by 4 shots over Linn Grant. She was T-4th at the Honda LPGA Thailand, five shots back of winner Lilia Vu. Was T-9th at the Bank of Hope LPGA Match-Play. She lost her Round of 16 match to Ayakaa Furue 2 & 1. Was T-9th at the U.S. Women's Open. She played for Sweden in the Hanwha Lifeplus International Crown, helping Sweden finish 3rd. She was T-4th at the Freed Group Women's Scottish Open, four shots back of the winner, Celine Boutier. She was T-8th at the Buick LPGA Shanghai and finished the season T-45th at the CME Group Tour Championship.
2024 Notes: Played in 21 LPGA Tour events, making 16 cuts with four top-ten finishes. She was 18th in the CME standings and 17th on the money list with earnings of $1,489,593. Finished T-3rd at the Ford Championship, three shots back of winner Nelly Korda. Finished runner-up in back-to-back weeks at the Chevron Championship and JM Eagle L.A. Championship. She was two shots back from winner Nelly Korda at the Chevron and three shots back from winner Hannah Green in L.A. She played at the Paris Olympics as a member of Sweden's women's golf team, finishing T-10th. She was named to here second European Solheim Cup team and was 1-2-1 in the matches. She halved her singles match to Lauren Coughlin. Was T-4th at the Maybank Championship. In the season ending CME Group Tour Championship was T-49th.
2025 Notes: Finished T-5th aat the T-Mobile Match Play, she lost her quarterfinal match to Ariya Jutanugarn 4 & 2. She won the U.S. Women?s Open at Erin Hills to become the first player from Sweden to win the title since Annika Sorenstam in 2006. Stark took a one-shotlead into the final round Stark beat back a host of challengers. Nelly Korda birdied Nos. 7 and 8, but missed a 9-foot birdie putt on No. 9 that would have tied her for the lead. Stark extended her lead to three by making a 14-foot birdie putt on No. 11 just after Korda missed a five-footer for par at 13. She maintained that lead despite bogeying the last two holes and won by two over Korda and Rio Takeda.
