Maria Fassi

Fassi hails from Pachuca, Hidalgo, Mexico. Fassi has earned a multitude of accolades in a college career. During her junior season, she was awarded the 2018 ANNIKA Award as the player of the year in women's collegiate golf and named the 2018 Southeastern Conference (SEC) Women's Golf Player of the Year. She also earned LPGA status at the inaugural Q-Series but will finish her career at Arkansas before turning pro.
Fassi recorded a program-record six victories in 2017-2018, including the NCAA Austin Regional, in which she became the first Razorback to win a regional, and was runner-up at the SEC Championship.
Fassi graduated high school a semester early to join the Arkansas golf team in January 2016. As a freshman, she was a Women's Golf Coaches Association All-American Honorable Mention and second-team All-SEC selection. In her sophomore season, she won the ANNIKA Intercollegiate.
Convincing Maria to attend Arkansas would not have been possible without the help of LPGA player Gaby Lopez. They have been friends for quite some time, and the great experience Lopez had as a student-athlete at The University of Arkansas definitely proved helpful in the recruiting process with Maria.
Fassi is a three-time Mexican Women's Amateur champion (2015, 2016, 2018) and was an International team member at the 2018 Palmer Cup.
She has played in nine USGA championships. Fassi advanced to the match play portion of the 2012 U.S. Girls' Junior after carding the second-lowest score during stroke play with 69. She advanced to the Round of 16 at the 2013 U.S. Girls' Junior, 2013 U.S. Women's Amateur, and the 2015 U.S. Women's Four-Ball Championship with Maria Balcazar. Fassi has competed in four U.S. Women's Amateurs (2013, 2015, 2016, 2018) and two U.S. Women's Opens (2015, 2018), missing the cut both trips.
So far in 2019, Fassi has four top-five finishes in her last five events with Arkansas, including a first-place finish in the SEC Championship and a runner-up finish in the Evans Derby Experience. She also finished runner-up to Cory Lopez in the 2019 Mexican Women's Amateur.
In April 2019, Fassi competed in the inaugural Augusta National Women's Amateur and finished runner-up, four shots behind Jennifer Kupcho. She currently ranks No. 3 on the Women's World Amateur Golf Rankings.
Her decision to stay in school paid off when on May 20th, Fassi won the NCAA women's individual title by 4 shots over Sierra Brooks.
Maria is the daughter of Andres and Fabiana. Her father, Andres, is the vice president of CF Pachuca, a soccer club that competes in the top professional league in Mexico, Liga MX. She has two older brothers, Sebastian and Juan Pablo, and a younger brother, Franco.
Fassi, who earned her LPGA Tour card in December 2018, deferred membership until she was done with college, and competed as an amateur, and turned professional in May 2019, making her professional debut at the 2019 U.S. Women's Open, where she finished T-12th.
