Michael Putnam

Putnam grew up playing junior golf with Andres Gonzales in Washington and is 16 days younger than Gonzales. Brother Andrew, a PGA Tour player, earned his first Tour card for the 2015 season.
First career PGA Tour start came as an amateur in June 2005, missing the cut at the U.S. Open at Pinehurst. Playing for Pepperdine University, he finished second at the 2005 NCAA Men's Golf Championships, losing a playoff on the third extra hole to the University of Washington's James Lepp. Named a first-team All-American by the Golf Coaches Association of America. Played on the USA Walker Cup Team in 2005.
Was T-88th at 2005 Q-School, advancing him to the Nationwide Tour for 2006. Finished 17th on the 2006 Web.Com Tour money list in his first season on that tour. Posted 10 top-25s, including two seconds and two thirds. That propelled him onto the PGA Tour in 2007, but an unproductive season sent him back to the Web.Com Tour where he played in 2008, 2009 and 2010. The last year finished 24th on the Web.Com Tour and with a T-6tthh at PGA Tour Q-School in 2010 helped him get a better ranking for 2011.

2011 Notes: His season came to an abrupt halt at the Reno-Tahoe Open when he had an MRI that revealed a fracture of a bone in his left wrist. The injury occurred in June while he was practicing. Before the injury, he matched his PGA Tour career total of top-25 finishes, with four, the best showing a T-12th at the John Deere Classic, where he posted four sub-par rounds for just the second time of the year. Qualified for the U.S. Open, then made the most of his opportunity, making the cut and eventually T-45th at Congressional CC.
2012 Notes: Played the first part of the PGA Tour season on a Major Medical Extension. Had four events to earn $269,76 but missed the cut in all four starts and went over the Web.Com Tour. Summary: Web.com Tournaments entered - 19; rounds played - 62 ; in money - 12; top-10 finishes - 4; Scoring average 70.03 (ranked 17th); money $169,023 (ranked 29th); best finish, T-2nd Utah Championship.
2013 Notes: Was named 2013 Web.com Tour Player of the Year by the players. Ended the season as one of four multiple winners (two wins) on Tour and made the cut in 19 of 23 starts. Also had one runner-up finish and one third-place finish during the season, which saw him earn a cumulative $515,184, the third-best total in Tour history. Finished with nine top 10s and 14 top 25s, first on Tour in both categories. With a T-12th finish at the Cox Classic, wrapped up the Web.com Tour Regular Season money title, with $450,184 in earnings, ensuring him fully exempt PGA Tour status in 2014 and a Players Championship invite.
2013 Web.Com Tour Summary: Tournaments entered - 22; rounds played - 83 ; in money - 16; top-10 finishes - 4; Scoring average 69.22 (ranked 3rd); money $220,277 (ranked 24th); best finish winner Mexico Championship, Mid-Atlantic Championship.
2014 Notes: Made 23 of 30 cuts, with his first top-10 Tour finish since the 2005 season. Advanced to his first FedExCup Playoffs, where he missed the cut at The Barclays. Season ended after he posted a T-50th at the Deutsche Bank Championship to finish 93rd in the FedEx Cup standings and 116th on the money list. Finished T-4th at the RBC Canadian Open, his best finish of the year.
2015 Notes: Made 16 of 28 PGA Tour cuts, he had no top-10s to finish 138th in the FedExCup standings and 154th on the money list. His best finish was T-11th at the RBC Canadian Open. Did have one nice honor, he was able to play in the U.S. Open in his hometown. Putnam lived just a mile from the Chambers Bay and when the course opened in 2007, Putnam was asked to be the first person to play an official round on the course. Even though he said to have played over 500 rounds at Chambers Bay, he did not make cut.
2016 Notes: Not only was he at a disadvantage having to play out of the 126-150 category, was also injured so only played in 7 events making the cut once finishing T-15th at the Sanderson Farms Championship. Did play in 8 Web.Com tour events making the cut in 4, best finish T-53rd at Albertsons Boise Open.
2017 Notes: Played in 9 Web.Com Tour events making 5 cuts, best finish T-23rd at the Lincoln Land Charity. Earned $18,675 which placed him 146th on the money list. Returned to Web.Com Tour Q-School but finished T-134th. Played in 6 PGA Tour events, best finish T-35th at the Sanderson Farms Championship and U.S. Open. Earned $134,984 which ranked 211th.
