Began playing golf as a youngster when he learned to play on a 9-hole course located in his grandfather's backyard. He never took lessons and learned how to play the game looking at pictures in golf magazines. In 1992, he finally took his first lesson from PGA Professional L.B. Floyd, Raymond Floyd's father. Won the 1989 Utah Open, receiving his tour card in 1989. He had a poor season in 1990, forcing him to Qualifying School where he regained his card. Enjoyed his best season in 1994 when he won the Byron Nelson. The tournament was shortened to 36 holes and Lancaster got into a six-man playoff when he birdied the last two holes. In sudden death, Lancaster won with a birdie on the first hole. In the 1995 U.S. Open, he became the first man in the 100-year history of the championship to shoot 29 for nine holes. His final round, 65, shot him from a T-46th to a fourth-place finish.
A full-time member of the PGA Tour between 1990 and 2007, he played in 578 events with one win, one runner-up, and 28 top-10s. He made 325 cuts and earned $6.3 million.
2012 Notes: Turned 50 in mid-September and played in just one event, finishing T-25th in his PGA Tour Champions debut at the SAS Championship in October. Earned conditional exemption for 2013 after securing the ninth position at the Qualifying Tournament. After he and Anders Forsbrand made birdies on the first extra hole, he lost on the eighth position with a bogey on the second extra hole. Also played eight times on the PGA Tour and made two cuts (T-70th at the FedEx St. Jude Classic and T-76th at the Travelers Championship) and made one cut on the Web.com Tour (T-62th at the News Sentinel Open).
2013 Notes: Played in nine events on the Tour, with a trio of top-20s and finished 85th on the money list. Open-qualified and finished T-18th at the Greater Gwinnett Championship. Open-qualified and was T-19th at the Mississippi Gulf Resort Classic. Was also T-20th at the Senior PGA Championship. Made six starts on the PGA Tour and made three cuts, with the best finish of T-53rd at the Valero Texas Open. Returned to PGA Tour Champions Qualifying School, but withdrew.
2014 Notes: Played twice, missing the cut at the Senior PGA Championship and finishing T-33rd at the SAS Championship. At PGA Tour Champions Qualifying School, he was T-14th, which didn't get him his card.
2015 Notes: He played four times on the PGA Tour missing the cut in all starts, Played in 4 events on the PGA Tour Champions, his best finish T-33rd at the U.S. Senior Open. Went back to Champions Q-School at the end of the year finishing T-30th. 2016 Notes: Missed the cut at the Wyndham Championship, played in six PGA Tour Champions events, best finish was 3rd at Dick's Sporting Goods Open. Was 75th in the Schwab ranking and money list. Went back to Champions Q-School finishing 40th.
2017 Notes: Only played once on the PGA Tour missing the cut at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. In three PGA Tour Champions starts best was T-39th SAS Championship. Went back to Champions Q-School and was T-7th.
