Olin Browne

Browne, the 2011 U.S. Senior Open champion, did not start playing golf until he was age 19 and got hooked on the game while attending Occidental College in Los Angeles. Broke through with his first PGA Tour win in the 1998 Canon Greater Hartford Open, defeating Larry Mize and Stewart Cink on the first hole of sudden death.
Had arm surgery at the end of 1998 and was unable to play in the 1999 Mercedes Championship. Before getting his card on the PGA Tour, he competed on the Korn Ferry Tour, winning four times, a career total that ranks him ninth in the tour's history; exceeded only by Jason Gore with seven, Sean Murphy, Kevin Johnson and Matt Gogel with six, and Chris Smith, Chris Couch, Pat Bates and Gavin Coles with five. His father is from Chile, so when Browne won the 1993 Monterrey Open in Mexico, he gave his victory speech in Spanish.
Played full time on the Korn Ferry Tour in 1990, 1991, 1993, and 1995, making 104 starts and winning four times, including the 1991 Bakersfield Open, Hawkeye Open, 1993 Monterrey Open, and 1996 Dominion Open. Had career earnings of $371,092. His best year was 1991 when he finished second on the Korn Ferry Tour money list with $106,406 in earnings. Played full time on the PGA Tour in 1992, 1994, and from 1996 through 2009. In 451 events played, he won three times, had 25 top-10 finishes, and earnings of $8.5 million.
2011 Notes: Began the PGA Tour Champions season with five consecutive top-10 finishes, rounding out the year with eight, including a win at the U.S. Senior Open Championship at Inverness Club.
2012 Notes: Made 23 starts and had seven top 10s including two third-place results at the Constellation Senior and 3M Championship. Finished 21st on the money list with $773,896 in earnings.
2013 Notes: Season was limited to just 14 starts after he missed five months of the campaign due to a stress fracture in his back. Had two top-10s, and his best finish was T-2nd at the Greater Hickory Classic, where he lost a playoff to Michael Allen. Finished 39th on the money list with $385,113 in earnings.
2014 Notes: Turned in his strongest season since 2011. In four events, he finished among the top-six finishers. Made a strong run in Sunday's final round at The ACE Group Classic, firing a 6-under par 66 to get himself into position to win. However, despite birdies on two of his final three holes, he made a bogey at No. 14, which would later prove costly. He finished T-2nd, one stroke short of Kirk Triplett's winning total of 16-under par 201. He had another strong showing at the Regions Tradition where he shared the first-round lead and was among the leaders all four rounds before eventually finishing T-3rd, two behind winner Kenny Perry. Capped his season with a solo sixth at the Charles Schwab Cup Championship in Arizona, finishing 21st in the Schwab Rankings.
2015 Notes: Had his best season on PGA Tour Champions since 2011, highlighted by winning the rain-shortened Greater Gwinnett Championship, his second career victory on the tour. His 6-foot birdie putt on the 18th hole Saturday proved to be the difference over Bernhard Langer as heavy rain wiped out the final round at TPC Sugarloaf. His victory ended a drought of 3 years, 8 months, 18 days since his initial PGA Tour Champions triumph at the 2011 U.S. Senior Open. Had seven top-10 finishes as he finished 14th on the money list and 21st in the Schwab rankings.
2016 Notes: Finished T-5th at the Insperity Invitational, then two weeks later was runner-up at the Regions Tradition. Also finished 6th at the Constellation Senior Players, T-7th at the Pacific Links and 4th at PowerShares QQQ. In 24 starts finished 19th on the money list and 17 in the Schwab rankings.
2017 Notes: Started his year finishing T-4th at the Mitsubishi Electric Championship at Hualalai, he also had another top 10 with a T-5th finish at the Bass Pro Shops Legends with partner Steve Pate. In his next 18 starts only had one more top-ten, 4th at the Pure Insurance Championship. Dropped 21 spots on the final Charles Schwab Cup money list, from 19th to 40th at the close of the season and failed to advance to the Charles Schwab Cup Championship for the first time since 2013.
2018 Notes: Played in 25 PGA Tour Champions events with two top-ten finish. Best as T-5th at the Cologuard Classic, he also was T-9th at the Sanford International. Was 52nd in the money list.
2019 Notes: Played in 23 PGA Tour Champions events with two top-ten finishes. Was 52nd on the final Schwab Rankings. Made bogey on first playoff hole to loss to Miguel Angel Jimenez at the Chubb Classic. Held a two-shot lead with one hole to play, but double-bogeyed No. 18 to fall into a playoff with Jimenez and Bernhard Langer. The runner-up finish was his best since he was runner-up at the 2016 Regions Tradition. Was T-7th at the Bass Pro Shops Legends of Golf with partner Steve Pate.
2020 & 2021 Notes: Played in 34 PGA Tour Champions events with one top-ten finishes. Was 68th on the final Schwab Rankings. In 2020 played 14 events, best finish was T-24th at the 2020 Cologuard Classic. Was T-5th at the 2021 Insperity Invitational, four shots back of winner Mike Weir. Finished the season T-39th at the SAS Championship. Returned to PGA Tour Champions Qualifying Tournament and was T-44th.
2022 Notes: Played in 15 PGA Tour Champions events, was 75th in the Schwab rankings and 75th on the money list with earnings of $144,803. Best finish T-17th at the Insperity Invitational.
2023 Notes: Best finish T-18th at the Chubb Classic.
