Prom Meesawat

Nicknamed the 'Big Dolphin' due to his burly physique and because he comes from the coastal town of Hua Hin, south of Bangkok. Initially wanted to hone his game in America on the amateur circuit but was coaxed by Fijian star Vijay Singh to turn professional and concentrate on the Asian Tour. His father Suthep, was the first Thai to win the Thailand Open. Lives next to a golf course where he picked up the game by watching the likes of Boonchu Ruangkit and fellow Hua Hin resident Prayad Marksaeng in action. Underwent corrective laser eye surgery following his SK Telecom Open win in 2006. Won the Junior World Championship in 1997 and 2002 in San Diego. Was the Thailand Amateur Open winner from 2001 to 2003. Finished top-10 at the 2003 Thailand Open as an amateur.
Enjoyed a solid rookie season on the Asian Tour in 2004 where he successfully kept his card with three top-20s. Earned his card at Qualifying School, saying it was the most pressure he had faced in his career.
In 2005, Prom enjoyed five top-10s, with a third-place finish in the Hero Honda Indian Open being the main highlight.
In 2006, Prom claimed his first major title at the SK Telecom Open in Korea, beating a top field which included Choi Kyung-ju, Jeev Milkha Singh and Michelle Wie and he went on to finish third on the Order of Merit. He came in runner-up at the Crowne Plaza Open in China after losing in a three-way playoff to countryman Chinnarat Phadungsil and finished tied sixth in the star-studded Barclays Singapore Open and fifth in the Volvo Masters of Asia in Bangkok. Was also in the top-five at the Hero Honda Indian Open.
He enjoyed a fine year in 2007 where he finished seventh on the Order of Merit. The burly Thai registered six top-10s including third-place finishes at the Bangkok Airways Open and Johnnie Walker Cambodian Open. He also contended in the Maybank Malaysian Open before finishing tied seventh.
He came close in the Indonesia Open in 2008 before finishing tied third and also contended at the Singha Thailand PGA Championship where he settled for sixth place. Prom was however disappointed with his second half of the season, saying he suffered a dip in confidence.
In 2009, he came close at the season-opening Asian Tour International on home soil where he finished tied third. He posted two tied 15th place results at the SAIL Open in India and Black Mountain Masters in Thailand. Prom also married long-time sweetheart Supichaya Panyathep that year.
Last year, Prom posted top-10s in the Mercuries Taiwan Masters and King's Cup in Thailand but missed nine cuts. Shoulder injuries have slowed him down for almost two years and he lost his Asian Tour card for the first time and was playing his way through injuries.
In 2012 a string of good results in Asian Tour events that were co-sanctioned with the European Tour earned Meesawat full playing rights on the European Tour for 2013. Prom lost his European Tour card in 2014, returned to the Asian Tour but returned to the European Tour in 2015, '16 and '17. Meesawal played a total of 136 European Tour events going into 2019.
