Richard S. Johnson

Something of a dare-devil sportsman. Richard (pronounced Rick-ard), played handball to a high standard in Sweden, having been a teen tennis player from the age of six. Took up skate-boarding and competed in the Swedish Championships. Suffered seven broken ribs, a hand and a foot over the years, so decided to give it up. He joked: �??To be any good you have to be crazy to do the stunts!�?� Started golf at 15 as his girlfriend's family played. Didn't enjoy it until neighbours, who practised in the back yard, went away �?? and he decided to hit some shots. Won two national junior events but did not get picked for the Swedish amateur side. Has a mixed background �?? grandfather is American, from New Jersey, who married a Swede and settled there. Made his big breakthrough by winning the ANZ Championship in Sydney in 2002 on his way to finishing in a career-best position of 64th on the Volvo Order of Merit. Ended the season by winning his card on the US PGA Tour by finishing T11th the Qualifying School in California.
