Robert MacIntyre

He comes from the town of Oban, a picturesque ferry port with a population of about 8,500 on the western edge of the Scottish Highlands. Known as "Bob from Oban," MacIntyre is Scotland's greatest all-time left-handed golfer. He started to focus on golf at the age of 17 after growing up playing his favorite sport, shinty (field hockey). Between the ages of 13 and 17 played for his local shinty club, Oban Camanachd in his native Scotland. His father, Dougie, is the greenskeeper at Glencruitten Golf Club, and the family home sits a mere 20 paces from the 12th tee. MacIntyre had a successful amateur career. In 2013 he won both the Scottish Youths Championship and the Scottish Boys Open Stroke-Play Championship. He won the Scottish Amateur in 2015 and in 2016 he lost 2&1 to Scott Gregory in the final of the Amateur Championship at Royal Porthcawl Golf Club. MacIntyre represented Scotland in the 2016 Eisenhower Trophy and played in the 2017 Walker Cup. He attended McNeese State University from 2014 to 2015.
MacIntyre turned professional in late 2017. In October, he played his first two events as a professional, on the MENA Golf Tour, finishing T-3rd in Jordan's Ayla Golf Championship and then winning the Sahara Kuwait Championship.
In November 2017, MacIntyre made the final stage of the European Tour Q-school. He finished T-37th to secure a 2018 Challenge Tour card.
2018 Notes: Played in 17 Challenge Tour events making 15 cuts with two top-10 finishes. Was runner-up at the Vierumaki Finnish Challenge, losing a playoff to Kim Koivu. Also lost another playoff to Victor Perez at the Foshan Open. Earned euro114,368 and was 12th on the Order of Merit.
2019 Notes: Played in 30 European Tour events making 25 cuts with seven top-ten finishes. Was 11th in the Race to Dubai. Back-to-back runner-up finishes, was T-2nd at the Betfred British Masters a shot back of winner Marcus Kinhult. MacIntyre's next start was 2nd at the Made in Denmark a shot back of winner Bernd Wiesberger. Making his first start in a major championship in the British Open at Royal Portrush, he shot 68-72-71-68 to finish T-6th. MacIntyre became the first Scot since Andrew Kirkcaldy in 1879 to have a top-10 finish in his British Open debut. Was runner-up again at the Porsche European Open, a shot back of winner Paul Casey. At the Italian Open, he was in the mix until he shot 71 in the final round to finish T-4th five shots back of winner Bernd Wiesberger. He was T-7th at the Turkish Airlines Open, T-8th at the Nedbank Open, and T-14th at the DP World Tour Championship, Dubai. He won the Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of the Year award.
2020 Notes: Played in 17 European Tour events making 13 cuts with four top-ten finishes. Was 23rd in the Race to Dubai. Started his season with a T-8th at the Dubai Desert Classic. Had a bad spell, but after getting back from finishing T-56th in the U.S. Open was T-14th at the Aberdeen Standard Investments Scottish Open, T-58th at the BMW PGA Championship and then broke out with a T-3rd at the Aphrodite Hill Cyprus Open, finishing two shots back of the Callum Shinkwin/Kalle Samooja playoff. The next week at the same venue in the Aphrodite Hill Cyprus Showdown, the format called for the top 16 and ties after 54 holes (which was 19 players) playing a shootout and MacIntyre shot the low round of 64 to win by a shot over Masahiro Kawamura and his first European Tour title. In his next start at the Alfred Dunhill Championship in South Africa, he finished T-6th, five shots back of winner Christiaan Bezuidenhout. He ended the season with a T-23rd finish in the DP World Tour Championship, Dubai.
2021 Notes: Played in 19 European Tour events making 17 cuts with five top-ten finishes. Was 9th in the Race to Dubai earning euro1,532,416. Played in 13 PGA Tour events making 11 cuts with two top-ten finishes. Was 3rd at the Omega Dubai Desert Classic, five shots back of winner Paul Casey. MacIntyre finished T-9th at the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play, he lost to Victor Perez 5 & 4 in the Round of 16. The good news, his play in early 2021 moved MacIntyre up to 44th in the Official World Golf Ranking to earn a spot in the Masters (he had ended 2020 55th in the ranking). Was T-12th at the Masters, earning him a trip to the 2022 Masters. He finished T-8th at the Betfred British Masters, three shots back of the Bland/Migliozzi playoff. Was T-8th at the British Open. Tried to earn his PGA Tour card by going to the Korn Ferry Tour Finals but missed the cut at the Albertsons Boise Open and Nationwide Children's Hospital Championship. Finished the season with a T-4th finish at the DP World Tour Championship, Dubai, four shots back of winner Collin Morikawa.
2022 Notes: Was T-9th at The Ras Al Khaimah Classic.
