Rod Pampling

Played the PGA Tour of Australasia during the winter and the NGA Hooters Tour during the summer to support my career before concentrating efforts primarily on the Korn Ferry Tour beginning in 2000. Pampling relocated to Flower Mound, Texas. Wife Angela is a clinical psychologist. "She gets to see everything I do out there. I'm kind of lucky. I have a psychologist out there 24 hours a day. She doesn't lie. I can't kid myself."
1998: Finished 2nd at the New Zealand Open on the Australasian Tour.
1999: First-round leader at the British Open. Shot an even-par 71 at Carnoustie, Scotland, then missed the cut after posting a second-round 86. Made three of six cuts on the PGA Tour. Won the 1999 Canon Challenge on the Australasian Tour.
Finished T-81st at the PGA Tour Qualifying Tournament in December 1999, giving him access to Nationwide Tour.

2001 Notes: Led the Nationwide Tour in top-10s with nine but did not bring home a win in his second season on that tour. Earned $306,573, setting a record for earnings without a victory. Also led Nationwide Tour with a cumulative 162-under par, two strokes better than Chad Campbell. Eight of his top-10s were top-5s, including three runner-up finishes and two thirds. Lost playoff to John Rollins at Hershey Open after matching the course record with seven-under-par 64 during final round. Came out on the short side of a three-man playoff with Mark Wurtz and winner D.A. Points at the Inland Empire Open. Finished in top five in seven standard statistical categories, including first in All-Around Ranking. Continued to support Australasian Tour, playing in seven events with two top-10s. Made 46 of 49 cuts between 1996-2001 on Australasian Tour.
Finished in the top-100 of the money list on the PGA Tour between 2002 and 2009. Around 2009, he was experiencing some back problems, which have never been serious. In 2010, he lost his tour card and had to play in 2011 based on the past champions category. Finished 124th on the money list in 2011, getting his PGA Tour card back for 2012.
2012 Notes: Qualified for the FedExCup Playoffs for the fifth time in six years but failed to advance past The Barclays. Finished 107th in the FedExCup standings and 127th on the money list. Best finish was T-8th at the Farmers Insurance Open, with rounds of 64-75-68-71. Finished T-10th late in the year at the Emirates Australian Open at the Lakes GC in Sydney. The following week, he contended at the Australian PGA Championship. Shot a pair of 69s on the weekend to finish T-2nd, four shots behind winner Daniel Popovic.
2013 Notes: Made seven of 16 cuts and did not record a top-25 finish for the first time since the 2001 season. Finished 194th in the FedExCup standings and 200th on the money list. Played in all four Korn Ferry Tour Finals events but was not able to improve his status for the 2013-14 season so will play in the past champion category.
2014 Notes: Played at 16 Korn Ferry Tour events, making 11 cuts, with two top-10s. Finished the regular season 38th on the money list. Best finish was T-2nd at the WNB Golf Classic, his best Korn Ferry Tour or PGA Tour result since a T-2nd at the 2008 Crowne Plaza Invitational. Opened the Korn Ferry Tour Finals with a T-19th at the Hotel Fitness Championship. Had two missed cuts and a T-46th in the other three, so he didn't get a PGA Tour card for 2015. On the PGA Tour, made the cut in four of seven starts, finishing 203th in the FedExCup standings. Best finish was 5th at the Barracuda Championship in Reno, where he compiled 11 points each in the first and final rounds of the Modified Stableford scoring event. It was his best finish on the PGA Tour since a T-8th at the 2012 Farmers Insurance Open. In his homeland, made three PGA Tour of Australasia appearances, highlighted by a runner-up result at the Emirates Australian Open in late November, six behind runaway winner Jordan Spieth.
2015 Notes: Earned his first career Korn Ferry win with a wire-to-wire victory at the BMW Charity Pro-Am. Was 20-under and ahead by two entering the final round at Thornblade Club. Although threatened, he never relinquished the lead, making six birdies in his first 14 holes Sunday. Bounced back with a critical two-putt birdie at No. 16 after an errant tee shot on the par-5 15th led to a bogey that cut his lead to one. Closed with a pair of pars to wind up 25 under par, two better than Texan Kelly Kraft, who kept pace with his own five-under 66. The victory came in his 85th career Korn Ferry Tour start and was worth $121,500, which jumped him from No. 72 to No. 8 on the money list after nine of 21 regular-season events. The win came at age 45 years, 7 months, 24 days. For the year, he played in 13 Korn Ferry Tour events, and made 10 cuts. Finished the regular season 17th on the Korn Ferry Tour money list, ensuring his return to the PGA TOUR in 2015-16. In the Finals, missed the cut in the first two events. Finished T-56th in Charlotte and closed with a T-24th at the Korn Ferry Tour Championship.
Also had a top-10 on the PGA Tour, finishing T-10th at the Puerto Rico Open.
2016 Notes: Played in 18 PGA Tour events making nine cuts. Struggled most of the year. His best finish was T-26th at the Puerto Rico Open. Finished 195th in the FedExCup standings, failing to advance to the Playoffs. In the Korn Ferry Tour Finals, finished inside the top 25 in each of the three events contested to finish 23rd on the Korn Ferry Tour priority list, regaining his PGA Tour card.
2017 Notes: Played in 22 PGA Tour events making 13 cuts with one top-ten finish. He was 74th on the final FedExCup standings. In his third start of the season, opened with a PGA Tour career-low 60 at the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open. With a 32-foot birdie putt on the final hole, Rod won by two shots over Brooks Koepka. The victory came 10 years, 7 months, 19 days since his last win at the 2006 Arnold Palmer Invitational. Two weeks later, he finished T-4th at the Emirates Australian Open. In the FedExCup playoffs was T-54th at the Northern Trust and 79th at the Dell Technologies Championship.
2018 Notes: Played in 20 PGA Tour events making 11 cuts with no top-ten or 25 finishes. His best finish was T-32nd at the RBC Heritage. Was 203rd in the FedExCup rankings.
2019 Notes: Played in 22 PGA Tour events making five cuts. His best finish was T-35th at the RBC Candian Open. Was 221st in the FedExCup rankings. When he turned 50 in September was T-16th at the Pure Insurance Championship and T-12th at the SAS Championship. He finished No. 90 on the Charles Schwab Cup points list.
2020 & 2021 Notes: Played in 35 PGA Tour Champions events with nine top-tens and finished 19th in the Charles Schwab Cup. Was T-8th at the Morocco Champions in his season debut on the PGA Tour Champions. Was T-3rd at the 2020 Cologuard, four shots back of winner Bernhard Langer. After the break from COVID-19 was T-4th at the Ally Challenge, three shots back of winner Jim Furyk. In his next start shot 66 in the final round of the Bridgestone Senior Players to finish T-5th five shots back of winner Jerry Kelly. In 2021 his best finish was 14th at the Region Tradition. Did play in four events on the PGA Tour in 2020, made one cut T-31st at the Bermuda Championship. Finished T-7th at the Bridgestone Senior Players. Was 4th at the Senior Open Championship, four shots behind champion Jim Furyk. Won his first PGA Tour Champions win at the 2021 Boeing Classic when he recorded 12-under 204, a shot better than Jim Furyk, Tim Herron, and Billy Mayfair. Finished T-4th at the 2021 Sanford International after shooting 64-67-69, two shots back of the Darren Clarke, K.J. Choi/Steve Flesch playoff. His final start to the season was T-27th at the Charles Schwab Cup Championship.
2022 Notes: Was t-6th at the Cologuard Classic and T-7th at the ClubCorp Classic. Shot a final round 67 to finish T-3rd at the Regions Tradition.
