Savannah Grewal

Grewal is the daughter of a Swedish-Korean mother and an Indian father. She is of Canadian, Swedish, Indian, and Korean descent and speaks English, French, and Swedish. She is currently learning Korean.
Grewal first picked up a golf club at age six when her mother took her to a golf lesson at Piper's Health Golf Club in nearby Milton. She loved the sport so much that, just two years later, she declared she wanted to play professionally one day. Her parents encouraged her dreams and dedicated their time and energy to ensuring Savannah was putting in the hard work they knew would help her take it to that level.
Grewal cut her teeth in competitive golf by playing in the annual U.S. Kids Golf World Championship until she was 12. She transitioned to playing in American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) tournaments, which gave her more exposure to junior golf at the highest level. Grewal reinforced her desire to turn pro and approached her parents about finding ways for her to play year-round. That's when she moved to Florida to live with her grandparents from December to April each year. Her Mississauga High School was flexible and helped her navigate her winter absences by allowing her to take classes, submit assignments virtually, and fly back for important exams.
In 2017, she became the first Canadian to win the Drive, Chip, and Putt Championship that is held at Augusta National, taking the crown in the girl's 14-15 Divisio. One of 12 women to win a Drive, Chip, and Putt Championship and play in the Augusta National Women's Amateur, Grewal missed the cut in 2022. Soon after winning the Drive, Chip, and Putt, she knew that she wanted to attend Clemson University after visiting her grandfather unofficially during a spring scrimmage football game. She said her mind was blown by Clemson's facilities, its coaches, and the atmosphere. Grewal enrolled at Clemson in 2019 as a pre-professional health science major.
Grewal was diagnosed with supraventricular tachycardia (SVT) when she was 14. She would get these weird episodes, and it only happened when she played golf, where her heart would start racing at 240 beats per minute. Her vision would go black, and she couldn't breathe. She didn't know when it would happen, so I'd go to any golf tournament and have that in the back of my mind that, hopefully, I don't have an episode, and I hope I can play this event.
She had successful surgery in November 2020 and has been healthy since. So she doesn't have that worry anymore, which is nice.
Because of the pandemic that hit just seven months after she arrived at Clemson, she was able to extend her eligibility to a fifth year for the 2022-23 season. That led to one of Grewal's favorite moments: winning the 2023 Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Golf Championship, the first time the Clemson women's team had done so.
Grewal reached match play at both the 2022 U.S. Women's Amateur (lost to Mia Hammond 1 up in the round of 16) and British Amateur (lost to Kelsey Bennett 2 & 1 in the first round of match play), as well as the 2021 Women's North-South Amateur. In 2022 got to play in two LPGA events, missing the cut at the Dow Great Lakes Bay Invitational and CP Women's Open.
In the 2023 British Amateur lost in the first round of match play to Patience Rhodes 5 & 3. In the 2023 U.S. Women's Amateur lost in the first round to Caltin Peirce 1 up. Played again with partner Annabelle Pancake at the 2023 Dow Great Lakes Bay Invitational, this time they finished T-31st.
At the end of 2023, a new LPGA rule mandated only professionals may compete in the final stage of qualifying school, otherwise known as Q-Series. Grewal was the co-medallist at her First Stage LPGA qualifier, finishing at 15 under par. She was then T-6th at Second Stage with an 8-under total. Turning pro ahead of schedule was worth it, as she finished T-10th at the LPGA Q-Series to earn an LPGA Tour membership for the 2024 season.
2024 Notes: She missed the cut in her first professional start at the LPGA Drive on Championship. But her next start was T-4th at the Blue Bay LPGA. She shot 64-68 to finish six shots back of the winner, Baily Tardy. Grewal finished T-20th at the ISPS Handa Women's Scottish Open, it was good enough to get her into the AIG Women's Open.
