Scott Parel

Parel (pronounced "Pa-RELL") was born in Pontiac, Michigan, and his father introduced him to the game. He graduated from the University of Georgia but did not play college golf. After college, he worked for 10 years as a computer programmer and database administrator before becoming a professional golfer. Did not turn professional until 1996, at age 31. Between 1996-07, he played in mini-tour events and qualified for the U.S. Open in 2002 and 2005, missing the cut both times. Throughout his career, he only played in five PGA Tour events, only making one cut, a T-57th in the 2006 BellSouth Classic. They made it to the finals of PGA Tour Q-School in 2002, finishing T-94th, which got him limited access to the Korn Ferry Tour.

He carded all four rounds in the 60s to become the fourth-oldest winner of a Korn Ferry Tour event. His first Tour title came in his 171st start. He collected a first-place check for $117,000 and vaulted from No. 153 to No. 14 on the Regular Season money list. Unfortunately, he couldn't finish higher than T-28th, which meant he couldn't get onto the PGA Tour.

2015 Korn Ferry Tour Summary: Tournaments entered - 18; in money - 10; Top-10 finishes - 2; scoring average 69.98 (ranked 26th); money $64,702 (ranked 76th); Best finish, T-4th Rex Hospital. Again, I returned to Korn Ferry Tour Q-School and had to withdraw.
On his 50th birthday in 2015, he aced the par-3 16th hole with a 9-iron from 142 yards in the second round of the BMW Charity Pro-Am. He played in his first Champions Tour event in 2015, finishing T-44th in the SAS Championship.
2016 Notes: He qualified in the weekly Tuesday qualifying tournament in five straight Champions Tour stops, starting with the Allianz Championship, which he finished T-19th. Finished T-7th in the Senior PGA Championship and then T-6th in the Dominion Charity Classic. He played in 15 Champions Tour events and was 50th on the money list. At the end of the year, went to Champions Q-School and was T-1st with Phillip Price, thus getting to play on the Champions Tour in 2017. He also played in two Korn Ferry Tour events, missing the cut in the Panama Claro Championship and withdrawing from the Mexico Championship.
2017 Notes: Played in 23 events with six top-10s, including a season-best T-2nd finish at the Regions Tradition. He finished 21st in the final Charles Schwab Cup standings.
2018 Notes: Played in 26 PGA Tour Champions events with 11 top-10 finishes. He began his year winning the unofficial Diamond Resorts Invitational by a shot over Scott Dunlap. He birdied four of the last six holes to shoot a 5-under 67 in the final round of the Rapiscan Systems Classic, finishing T-3rd. Shot a final-round 64 at the Mitsubishi Electric Classic to earn a spot in a playoff with Steve Flesch and Bernhard Langer, where he lost to a Flesch birdie on the second extra hole to finish T-2nd. Also, T-2nd at the Principal Charity Classic, he finished 2 shots back of Tom Lehman in the rain-shortened event. He was T-6th at the Constellation Senior Players 4 shots back of the Singh/Maggert playoff. With a final round 63, he won the Boeing Classic by 3 shots over Kevin Sutherland. The next week he was T-2nd at the Shaw Charity Classic, shot a final-round 62 to finish a shot back of winner Scott McCarron. He was runner-up again at the SAS Championship but was a full six shots back of winner Bernhard Langer. He won again at the Invesco QQQ by a shot over Paul Goydos. He was 18th in the season-ending Charles Schwab Cup Championship. He was 2nd in the standings, entering the season finale with a chance to win the Charles Schwab Cup, and he went on to finish the season 3rd.
2019 Notes: Played in 26 PGA Tour Champions events with ten top-ten finishes. He was 8th in the final Schwab ranking. He lost a seven-hole playoff to Kevin Sutherland at the Rapiscan Systems Classic. He lost another playoff to Kevin Sutherland at the Principal Charity Classic. He was runner-up again at the Insperity Invitational, two shots back of Scott McCarron. He was 6th at the Senior PGA Championship, five shots back of winner Ken Tanigawa. T-4th at the Mastercard Japan Championship, four shots back of winner Scott McCarron. At the Bridgestone Senior Players, led by one through 54 holes, was part of a five-way tie for the lead with four holes to play. Errant tee shots on the par-3 15th and par-5 16th led to a bogey and double bogey, respectively, and he settled for a T-4th finish at 2-under. He was T-6th at the Dick's Sporting Goods Open. Was a 36-hole co-leader at the Dominion Energy Charity Classic and played in the final group of the final round for the fifth time in 2019. They posted a final-round 71 and finished T-4th. He was T-8th at the Invesco QQQ Championship, five shots back of the Montgomerie/Langer playoff. The year's final event at the Charles Schwab Cup Championship was T-19th.
2020 & 2021 Notes: Played in 39 PGA Tour Champions events with eight top-ten finishes. He was 16th in the final Schwab ranking. Finish T-3rd at the inaugural 2020 Morocco Champions, four shots back of winner Brett Quigley. It was his best finish since losing to Kevin Sutherland in a playoff at the 2019 Principal Charity Classic. He closed with a final-round 63 to erase a three-shot deficit and win the 2020 Chubb Classic with a tournament-record tying score of 17-under and by two shots over Bob Estes. He finished runner-up to Jerry Kelly at the Bridgestone Senior Players Championship. After a first-round 71 at Sanford International, he shot rounds of 66-62 to finish 5th three shots back of winner Miguel Angel Jimenez. He was T-9th at the SAS Championship. Started 2021 with a T-4th finish at the Mitsubishi Electric Championship at Hualalai. Shot a final-round 71 at the 2021 Cologuard to finish T-3rd, three shots back of winner Kevin Sutherland. He was T-5th at the SAS Championship, had 65 in the opening round to hold the first-round lead, and was two shots back of the Lee Janzen/Miguel Angel Jimenez playoff. He ended his season with a T-13th finish at the Charles Schwab Cup Championship.
2022 Notes: Played in 27 PGA Tour Champions events with four top-ten finishes. He was 20th in the Schwab rankings and 17th on the money list with earnings of $888,789. He was T-5th at the Chubb Classic, even though he shot 73 in the final round. The following week was 5th at the Cologuard Classic. He won his fourth Champions event at the ClubCorp Classic, beating Steven Alker and Gene Sauers with a par on the first playoff hole. He was T-10th at the SAS Championship, and in the season-ending Charles Schwab Cup Championship was T-15th.
2023 Notes: He played in 26 PGA Tour Champions events with one top-ten finish. He was 51st in the Schwab rankings and 51st on the money list with earnings of $409,497. He was T-9th at the Kaulig Companies Championship. He carded rounds of 70-68-68-71.
2024 Notes: Finished T-5th at the Mitsubishi Electric Championship at Hualalai after rounds of 67-69-66, 11 shots back of winner Steven Alker.
