Father was a professional volleyball player. Has one brother who excels in tennis and two sisters. Is a friend of Rory McIlroy, the two met as 9-year olds during the Doral Junior Public Links. Four years later McIlroy stayed with his family in Utah for three months while playing in junior events in the United States. He finished second to McIlroy at the Doral Junior Public Links. He attended Arizona and then Arizona State University from 2008 to 2011. He won the 2010 Trans-Mississippi Amateur Championships at Denver Country Club after scoring a 6-under par 204 (69-66-66) and then beating Kevin Tway on the second playoff hole. As an amateur he played in the 2011 U.S. Open after tying for top spot in sectional qualifying. He scored 79 and 75 and missed the cut. That same year made it through all three stages of PGA Tour Q-School and even though he finished 165th got some privileges to play in the Web.Com Tour for 2013.
2013 Notes: Finished the season playing in 24 of the Web.com Tour's 25 tournaments, recording three top-tens along with nine top-25s. In his second start of the year, fired 67 in the first and third rounds of the Chile Classic in March, went on to finish T-6th, his first Tour top-10. By early August, had fallen to 70th on the money list and was in jeopardy of not making the top 75 to qualify for the Web.com Tour Finals. A T-11th at the Price Cutter Charity Championship on Aug. 10th improved his position to No. 53. At the Regular Season's finale, the WinCo Foods Portland Open, birdied the last four holes of the first round for a 67. Posted 68-68 over the next 36 holes and after a Sunday 71, finished T-5th and was 37th on the final year money list. tIn the finals had a T-25th at the Hotel Fitness Championship. The next week at the Chiquita Classic, recorded his best finish of the year, a T-4th. Performance ensured he would receive a PGA Tour card for the first time at the conclusion of the Finals. Capped the Finals with a T-14th at the Web.com Tour Championship, posting 65s in the first and third rounds.
2014 Web.com Summary: tournaments entered - 24; in money - 17; top-10 finishes - 3; scoring average - 70.41 (ranked T-57th); money - $101,941 (ranked 37th); best finish, T-4th Chiquita Classic.
In 2015 got his first career PGA Tour top-10 in his rookie season when he picked up a T-6th finish at the Puerto Rico Open. Despite a 1-over 73 in the final round, claimed his second top-10 finish of the season, a T-8th, at the Valero Texas Open in late-March. Playing in the final group Sunday of the AT&T Byron Nelson, shot a 3-under 66 to finish T-2nd (four shots behind tournament champion Steven Bowditch) his best showing on the PGA Tour in 20 events played. The Nelson was Pinckney's first tournament that he recorded all four rounds in the 60s.
