Scott Verplank

Winner of the 1984 U.S. Amateur. Winner of the 1982, '84, and '85 Texas State Amateur, 1982, '83, '84, and '85 LaJet Amateur Classic, 1984 Western Amateur, 1984 and '85 Sunnehanna Amateur and the 1986 NCAA Championship. They played on the 1985 USA Walker Cup Team. Member of the 2002 and 2006 Ryder Cup teams and the 2005 and 2007 Presidents Cup teams. Winner of the 1985 Western Open as an amateur. Has endured problems related to Type 1 diabetes and wears a pager-sized insulin pump on the course. He had surgery in 1992 and 1995 to correct soft tissue pinching in his elbow. It took 12 years and 27 days between wins in the 1988 Buick Open and 2000 Reno-Tahoe, the fourth-longest duration in PGA Tour history.
He battled an early-season wrist injury that limited his starts in 2011. He could still make nine of 15 cuts and finish inside the top 125 of the money list for the 14th consecutive season. They had surgery in September for a tendon reconstruction in which tissue was folded over the tendon to help keep it stable. He still isn't fully recovered; he has had a limited tournament schedule due to the injury.
Despite various injuries throughout his career, he was a fixture on the PGA Tour between his 1985 Western Open victory and 2014. He has played a total of 644 events, making 418 cuts. He has five victories, along with 14 runner-ups and eight third-place finishes among his 94 top-tens. Since joining the Tour full-time in 1986 has been in the top 100 of the money list for 18 of the 28 years. His best year was in 2001, when he finished 10th on the money list with earnings of $2.7 million, but his best financial year was 2007 when he won $3,114,289 and got his last victory in the Byron Nelson.
2014 Notes: Appeared in just four PGA Tour Champions events after turning 50 in July, and all came in six weeks in the summer. His best finish was at the 3M Championship, where he was T-51st. Missed the cut at the U.S. Senior Open at his home course - Oak Tree National in Edmond, Okla. Made one of 12 PGA Tour cuts and utilized his top-50 career money-list exemption for the 2014-15 season. He finished T-72 at the Sony Open in Hawaii, followed by seven consecutive missed cuts and a WD. I began the season on a Major Medical Extension but could not earn enough to clear the Extension.
2015 Notes: Split his time between the PGA Tour (13 starts) and the PGA Tour Champions (10 starts). Finished T-4th at the Senior PGA Championship, was also T-17th at the Constellation Senior Players Championship and T-18th at the Toshiba Classic. Made two cuts in 13 starts on the PGA Tour with best finish a T-48th at the RBC Canadian Open.
2016 Notes: He played his first full season on the Champions Tour, making 20 starts and 53rd on the final money list, and 54th on the Schwab rankings. Their best finish was T-6th at the Tucson Conquistadores Classic, despite shooting a final round 74.
2017 Notes: He enjoyed his most successful season on PGA Tour Champions since joining the Tour full-time in 2015. Overall, he played in 20 events with six top-ten finishes and earned $800,836 (23rd on the money list), surpassing the combined total of his first two seasons on Tour. He had six top-10s among his 20 starts, including a pair of runner-up finishes at the American Family Insurance Championship (two shots back of winner Fred Couples) and Dominion Energy Charity (one shot back of winner Bernhard Langer). Was T-5th at the Principal Charity Classic, 6th at the 3M Championship, and T-7th at the U.S. Senior Open. Also, T-8th at the Bass Pro Shops Legends of Golf with teammate Davis Love III.
2018 Notes: Played in 21 PGA Tour Champions events; his best finish was T-12th at the Toshiba Classic. He was 59th on the money list and 55th on the Charles Schwab Cup list.
2019 Notes: Played in 13 PGA Tour Champions events with one top-ten finish. It was 80th on the Schwab Ranking. With a 2nd round 64, he finished T-10th at the Hoag Classic, 4 shots behind the Triplett/Austin playoff. He ended his season early with wrist problems.
2020 & 2021 Notes: Played in 22 PGA Tour events with one top-ten finish. He finished 78th in the Schwab ranking and 78th on the money list earning $221,670. He was T-9th at the 2020 Cologuard Classic.
2022 Notes: Played in 11 PGA Tour Champions events, was 81st in the Schwab rankings, and 81st on the money list with earnings of $105,804. Best finish T-15th at the ClubCorp Classic.
2023 Notes: T-25th in the Chubb Classic.
