Spencer Levin

Father, Don, was a two-time All-America golfer at San Jose State and played the PGA Tour in the early 1980s, with a best finish of T6th at the 1981 Texas Open. Middle name of Joseph given after Joe Montana, the San Francisco 49ers Hall of Fame quarterback. Began playing golf regularly at age 14 and started playing competitively at 15.
First-team All-America for New Mexico in 2004-2005 and second-team All-America in 2003-2004. Played for the U.S. team in the 2005 Palmer Cup. Won the 2004 California State Amateur, Porter Cup and Scratch Players Championship.
Finished T-13th (low amateur) in the 2004 U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills was the best finish by an amateur at the U.S. Open since 1971 when Jim Simon finished T5. Recorded first career hole-in-one with an 8-iron in first round of the U.S. Open on the 170-yard 17th hole at Shinnecock Hills. Right after that turned professional. In 2007 finished T42nd at PGA Tour Q-School which got him on the Web.Com Tour for 2008
2008 Web.Com Tour Summary: Tournaments entered - 28; in money - 19; top-10 finishes - 7; scoring average 70.37 (Rank 15th); money $236,185 (ranked 22nd); best finish T2nd, Preferred Health Systems Wichita Open.
Got his PGA Tour card for 2009 but lost it finishing 141st on the money list. Regained it by finishing T23rd at Q-School at the end of the year, then finished 74th on money list in 2010.
2011 notes: Turned in his best season on PGA Tour, finishing No. 31 on the money list while making 25 of 31 cuts including six top-10s and 13 top 25s. Best finish was 2nd at the Mayakoba Golf Classic, losing a playoff to Johnson Wagner. He was 47th in the FedEx Cup rankings and 31st on the money list.
2012 Notes: A second-round, 8-under 63 helped set-up a six-stroke lead beginning the final round of the Waste Management Phoenix Open. A 4-over 75 Sunday dropped him to T-3rd, two shots back of eventual winner Kyle Stanley. One week after his final-round disappointment in Scottsdale, rebounded with a T-9th finish at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am. Carried a one-stroke lead into the final round of the Memorial Tournament but shot a 3-over 75 in the final round to finish T-4th, four shots behind winner Tiger Woods. Held a three-stroke lead after nine holes in the final round but made three bogeys and a double bogey on the back nine. Mishap while practice-putting with a belly putter resulted in surgery on October 4 to repair a torn ligament in his left thumb. Missed the remainer of the season. Was 83 on the FedEx Cup rankings and 68th on the money list.
2013 Notes: Did not make a PGA Tour start after having left-thumb surgery. Was give 28 events in the 2014 season to earn $595,483 under a Major Medical Extension. Made a comeback from the surgery in July starting at the Web.Com Tour Midwest Classic, played eight Web.com Tour starts as part of his rehab. In his second start was a playoff runner-up to Kevin Tway at the Albertsons Boise Open.
2014 Notes: Made only 20 starts, earning $277,780 before the wrist injury sidelined him again. Made nine cuts in his 20 starts, T-12th at the Frys.com Open was his only top-25 finish. Major Medical Extension earned him an exemption into the Web.com Tour Finals, where he played in all four events and made three cuts. Best finish was a T12 at the Chiquita Classic. Finished 64th in the priority ranking, 14 spots behind the 50th and final card issued.
2015 Notes: Made a comeback onto the PGA Tour playing in 31 events, making 18 cuts with 7 Top-25 finishes and one top-10 with a T-10th at the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open. Was able to save his card when he finished the regular season 115th on the FedEx rankings and go to the playoffs for a third time and first since 2011. Played in the Barclays (T-16th) and the Deutsche Bank (T-56th) finishing 82nd in the FedEx Cup race and 118th on the money list.
2016 Notes: Had his first top-10 with a T-10th at the OHL Classic at Mayakoba. Was T-4th at the AT&T Byron Nelson, two shots back of the playoff with Sergio Garcia and Brooks Koepka.
