Steen Tinning

Born in Copenhagen, Denmark, Tinning followed a successful amateur career by turning professional in 1985. Not long after, he won a place on the European Tour. His career was interrupted when he and his wife were involved in a multiple car crashes in Germany in 1990 which badly damaged his right arm. He recovered and went on to win two European Tour events, the 2000 Celtic Manor Resort Wales Open and the 2002 Telefonica Open de Madrid. His last season on the European Tour was 2003 and his best year-end ranking on the Order of Merit was 30th in 2000. He represented his country in international team competitions several times.
Played on the European Tour between 1987 and 2003, playing in 368 events. Won twice and was in the top-ten 23 times he earned euro2,049,725.
Enjoyed a superb debut season on the Senior Tour in 2013, winning twice and finishing runner-up to Paul Wesselingh on the Order of Merit. Held off the challenge of home favorite Bernhard Langer to win the Berenberg Masters in Germany, earning his maiden Senior Tour title. Added the English Senior Open crown as he was named Rookie of the Year. Known as the Senior Tour's Iron Man after taking up the grueling endurance challenges to help with his fitness for golf, he celebrated his first victory by taking part in a half-Iron Man championship. Having kept competitive by playing on the ECCO Tour in his native Denmark, he made his Senior Tour debut in Mauritius in December 2012 following a successful European Tour career in which he won two times.
The former World and European Junior Champion recovered from a multiple car crashes in Germany in 1990, when both he and wife, Anne, were lucky to escape with their lives. His right arm was detached, left dangling by skin and muscle, which kept him out of action for 18 months while the injuries healed. Struggled on his return to action and lost his card in 1996. Took three months off to decide what to do with his career. Returned in 1997 and finished eighth on the Challenge Tour to retain his card. Suffered a broken thumb in May 1999 after being hit by a full-blooded driver from an amateur at a company day. Claimed his first title on The European Tour when capturing The Celtic Manor Resort Wales Open in 2000, claiming; "The only thing better than this was the birth of my two kids." Added a second title when he won the 2002 Telefonica Open de Madrid, just three weeks after his 40th birthday, to become the fourth Danish winner on The 2002 European Tour International Schedule.
