Trey Mullinax

Mullinax was born in Birmingham, Ala. He played college golf at the University of Alabama, where he was an All-American and helped the team to the 2013 and 2014 NCAA Championships. Made 32 tournament starts in college, winning twice, including once as a junior (Savannah Quarters) and once as a senior (Isleworth Collegiate Invitational). He posted five top-fives. He was a second-team All-American as a senior. He went to Korn Ferry Tour Q-School at the end of 2014 after turning pro and finishing T-118th.

2015 Korn Ferry Tour Summary: Tournaments Entered - 18; In Money - 14; Top-10 Finishes - 1; Scoring Average - 69.55 (Rank 8th); Money - $88,097 (Rank 60th); Best Finish - T-4th Stonebrae Classic. Despite limited access from his Q-School finish in December, he had a solid first year on the Korn Ferry Tour Tour.
2016 Korn Ferry Tour Summary: Tournaments Entered - 22; In Money - 14; Top-10 Finishes - 3; Scoring Average - 69.71 (Rank 25th); Money - $212,016 (Rank 8th); Best Finish - Win Rex Hospital Open. He locked up his PGA Tour card for the 2017 season with an eighth-place finish on the 2016 Korn Ferry Tour Tour Regular Season money list. He made cuts in two starts on the PGA Tour, 73rd at the Sanderson Farms Championship, and T-25th at the RSM Classic.
2017 Notes: Played in 28 PGA Tour events making 16 cuts with one top-ten. Their best finish was T-9th at the U.S. Open at Erin Hills. Ended the year 137th in the FedExCup race, went to the Web.Com Tour finals, and made the cut in 3 of the 4 events but with the best finish of T-54th at the DAP Championship, finished 95th on the priority list.
2018 Notes: Played in 24 PGA Tour events making 14 cuts with three top-ten finishes. It was 102nd in the FedExCup rankings. He was a Monday qualifier at the Valspar Championship and finished T-8th. Had his career-best, T-2nd at the Valero Texas Open, a shot back of winner Andrew Landry. I was T-6th at the FedEx St. Jude Classic. In the FedExCup playoffs, he was T-56th at the Northern Trust.
2019 Notes: Played in 25 PGA Tour events making 14 cuts. It was 157th in the FedExCup rankings. A rough season got even rougher at the Charles Schwab Challenge. In the Wednesday pro-am, one of his partners beaned Mullinax in the head with a shot. On a trip to Fort Worth hospital, doctors confirmed that Mullinax did not have internal bleeding, then diagnosed him with a mild concussion and prescribed pain medication. But it was tough on him; he felt nauseated and disorientated during the week. Things over time got worst, the headaches were brutal, and it started affecting his game. He continued to play despite the headaches persisting, and he was beginning to lose sight of the ball at address. He visited numerous doctors that said he was severely concussed. Mullinax had what's called convergence insufficiency, a condition in which your eyes cannot focus on nearby objects, which, according to the Mayo Clinic, can lead to blurriness, headaches, and an inability to concentrate. Mullinax learned from his doctors that his condition worsened with time because of his constant physical activity, especially in warm conditions. So in July, he decided to rest and do nothing; his last event was the Barbasol Championship. Mullinax's recovery, in which didn't start hitting balls again until September, was partly drawn out because Doctors didn't know what to do. Mullinax ended the 2018-19 season 157th on the points list. He qualified for a minor medical exemption, but the two events they gave him weren't enough.
2020 Notes: He played in two PGA Tour events, finishing 78th at Farmers Insurance and missing the Waste Management Phoenix cut. At that point, he had no choice but to play on the Korn Ferry Tour. For the 2020/21 season, he played in 32 Korn Ferry events making 19 cuts with four top-tens. The good news was the headaches and other problems stopped nine months after he was hit. But his game started to thrive, and he won the Orange County National by a shot over Stephan Jaeger. He had to spend two years on the Korn Ferry Tour, but after finishing 2nd at the 2021 Korn Ferry Tour Champions, he got his ticket back to the PGA Tour.
2022 Notes: Played in 20 PGA Tour events making 14 cuts with three top-ten finishes. It was 33rd in the FedExCup rankings. In his second start of the year, he finished T-4th at the Sanderson Farms, two shots back of winner Sam Burns. After that, he started struggling with his game. But at the Barbasol Championship, things popped back into place; he shot 65-65 and followed that up with rounds of 67-68. He made a 14-foot birdie putt on the final hole to beat Kevin Streelman by a shot to win his first PGA Tour event. On top of the victory, the $666,000 he won was his biggest check in Golf, but he also got the very last spot with his win to play in the Open Championship in St. Andrews. On the quick trip to Scotland, he finished T-21st at the British Open. In the FedExCup playoffs was T-5th at the FedEx St. Jude Championship, four shots back of the Will Zalatoris/Sepp Straka playoff. Next week was T-12th at the BMW Championship.
2023 Notes: Was T-4th at the Cadence Bank Houston Open and T-8th at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. With this finish earned a spot in the 151st Open Championship. Since the Palmer has only made one cut in 11 events going into the Open Championship, he was T-47th at the Wells Fargo.
