Victor Dubuisson

Dubuisson, who was born in Cannes, France, started playing golf at age 12. After he watched Tiger Woods win the 2002 Masters, he decided he wanted to become a professional golfer. He enjoyed a successful amateur career, during which he won several major tournaments, including the 2009 European Amateur, and was the top-ranked player for eight weeks (Nov. 4 through Dec. 23, 2009). He also made the cut in several professional tournaments, the highlight being a 3rd-place finish at the 2009 Allianz EurOpen de Lyon on the Challenge Tour.
Dubuisson turned professional in 2010 after playing in the British Open, and made the European Tour at that year's Qualifying School. He finished T-24th in his first tournament as a professional, the 2010 Nordea Scandinavian Masters, but says his prize money of ?16,400 (about $20,961) went toward paying the rent for his apartment in the expensive town of Cannes.
2013 Notes: Dubuisson won his maiden European Tour title at the Turkish Airlines event before taking 3rd the following week at the DP World Tour Championship. He jumped to 6th place in The Race to Dubai.
2014 Notes: The Frenchman was one shot out of the lead at the Volvo Golf Champions, but carded a final-round 72 to drop to T-5th. In February, he surprised the golf world when he defeated Kevin Streelman, Peter Hanson, Bubba Watson, Graeme McDowell and Ernie Els to reach the finals of the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship. In the final match against Jason Day, he was two down with two to play, and finished birdie-par to send the match into extra holes. He lost on the fifth hole of the playoff after hitting miraculous chip shots on two different holes to keep the playoff going. His runner-up finish earned enough FedExCup points to gain Special Temporary Member status for the remainder of the year?s PGA Tour season. He also earned enough points to extend his membership through 2015.
Dubuisson has played in five majors, but in his three majors in 2014, he finished T-28th at the U.S. Open, T-9th at the British Open and T-7th at the PGA Championship. On the European Tour, he lost in a playoff to Thongchai Jaidee at the Nordea Masters and also posted runner-up finishes at the ISPS Handa Perth International and the season-ending DP World Tour Championship in Dubai. He finished the year 5th in The Race to Dubai point standings. He earned his first spot on the European Ryder Cup Team, where he recorded two-and-a-half points with a 2-0-1 record in his three matches. Midway through the season, he revealed that inflammation in his shoulder had been bothering him.
2015 Notes: He finished T-4th at the Abu Dhabi Championship, but has experienced some health issues. A bad back caused him to withdraw from the Thailand Golf Championship, and he was ill and forced to withdraw from the Maybank Malaysian Open and Northern Trust. None of those problems were related to his earlier shoulder inflammation. Since his Abu Dhabi finish, his next best results were a T-10th at the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open and T-12th at the Alstom Open de France until an emotional win at the Turkish Airlines Open in November. There, he birdied three of the last four holes in the final round for a 6-under-par 66 and a one-shot victory over Jaco Van Zyl?his second in the event after claiming his maiden title in Turkey two years earlier. Dubuisson broke down in tears in the arms of his coach on the 18th green, later explaining that the win helped banish the frustrations of a season plagued with personal problems. He finished 11th in The Race to Dubai.
2016 Notes: Started the year with a T-4th at the Nedbank Golf Challenge. Was T-9th at the Handa Global Cup on the Japan Tour.
